Just Ordered my 2011 3.0

After months of reading and researching and debating between getting the inline 6 or waiting for turbo 4 banger, I finally decided in favor of the former. Just didnt want to deal with a turbo engine, too much baggage IMO.
I6 on the otherhand, from what I have read is an engienering marvel, and even though it is slighly more expensive (capex and opex) than the 4 cyl, I think in the long run, it will be less troublesome (I tend to drive my cars until the wheels fall off, hence couldnt be bothered by a Turbo).

From what I am told by my CA, I am getting one of the last batch of 2011 3.0i - he had the last one in his allocation. Still dont have the production number, so crossing my fingers.

Super excited. I have waited for this car only 15 years (have been eyeing this since it was launched in 1996).
Color combo (many of you wouldnt like it, so please save your comments and breath on that, becuase I liked it) is DSB and CR.

Now the wait begins ...

Garage List
what's the color combo?

I'm a CA at Valencia BMW. My 35i just arrived at oxnard. It's a LOOONNNGGG wait

Congrats on getting the last one. As of last week when I checked, there were only 2 left. Guess I can't sell any more 3.0 orders That lease program ate up all the allocation that was left!

Nate,
What ship was your car on? I'm waiting on the Asian King, due in Hueneme on 7/11............ How long did it take to unload and let the VPS folks have their way with it?

His car is Deep Sea Blue and Coral Red
DSB CR

PS We bought our very first Mazda Miata in 1989 in Valencia. My kid used to work for Rusnak.

Color DSB + CR.

Not sure if it is the last on or one of the last. It was his last allocation.

I didnt want a Turbo, so probably paid a bit more than I should have, but in the long run, guess it doesnt matter as much. I didnt lease it, bought it outright, and plan to own and drive it for 8-10 years like my other cars.

OP: I am very pleased with my s30i, love the 6MT. Had a 335i and do not miss the TT engine and I sure don't miss the HPFP issue. You made a good decision.

Good choice. BMW's normally aspirated inline six is a gem of an engine with a legendary reputation. You'll love it. I still can't believe they are thinking the turbo four is a suitable replacement in this price range.

coldnate,
does Z4 allocation count as a whole or different in models i.e 30i, 35i & 35is?

if they are different, do u have any 35is left? is BMW keeping the same rate for July?

Congrats....I just got mine last week....I was taking my 2008 335i in for it's 5th fuel pump and saw a Crimson red 3.0 at the dealer...It was stunning looking...Long story short, it's now mine and the 335i is gone....While I loved the 335i, I didn't enjoy the constant breakdowns with it...

Good call - I am sure the 4cyl is fine but really it is sad when BMW is moving away from the 3.0 I6 NA. If I had to do it all over again we would have ordered a 30i MT loaded with M Sport. We love the 35i and the ridiculous power but the 30i is a classic and without all the long term complication IMO as we intend on keeping the Z for a third car into the next decade.

Thanks VintageBMW. My thoughts exactly.

BTW: the MyBMW order status shows, on order (Stage 1). Any idea when it will move to Stage 2 (Start production)?

Also is there a way to make sure that the CA ordered the right options we discussed. I am just a bit paranoid, thats all. So want to see and check myself.

That's exactly what I did, 30i 6mt pretty loaded. Had the N54 on my 335xi and didn't want to go there again, although the low end torque was pretty addicting. The NA 6 just seems sweeter, and while you have to rev it a bit, it has pretty good power and the 30i 6MT weighs something like 250 lbs less than the 35iDCT. My only regret is that the brakes don't seem terribly strong, and the 35i brakes are better, but they also have to stop a heavier car, so maybe the difference is not that great.
