Finally did some more testing today - not out on the road but out in the driveway well away from the previous obstructions and things which might interfere with reception.

As before, the aerial has no bearing at all on satellite and FM reception - they are unchanged even without either of the antennas installed which means they must be using something else. That includes FM HD of which I was able to pick up a lot of stations.

Also as before, AM was another matter. In the new test location there was much better reception of AM stations with the stubby aerial, but there were approximately 2.5x as many adequately received with the OEM long aerial. No AM HD was detected with either.

My conclusion is still the same - if AM reception for some reason seriously matters to you, I wouldn't switch to the short aerial.

I am pleased to read so many people are having success with the UK supplier.

Best regards,
Ed

I'll keep the long antenna in the trunk just in case I get a craving for AM.

I should have ordered 20 of them and sold them here in the US. =)
Did you get your antenna, did it fit? Thanks.

Mempphis - not according to the manual. If you read it you will see that the cell phone is connected to the RADIO antenna if the smartphone cradle option in in use.

Just to help clarify the various antennae on the new Z4

Rear Bumper - FM antennae runs the width of the rear bumber, with an amplifier buried on the left side.

AM - Left rear quarter panel, this uses the antenna core.

Internal Phone - this is 1 of 2 antennae for phone use, one is the spiral wound wire around the AM antenna rod, the other antenna is a shark fin under the left rear bumper. there is also a backup antenna under the center console storage unit, which antenna is used is based on the frequencies used in each region.

GPS - in the black box at the top center of the windshield

DAB - in the black box at the top center of the windshield

TV - Runs from both rear corners of the bumper along the left side

ChuckB,

Thx for the info. seems you know a lort about this. The way it was related to me is that the SHARK FIN w/ internal telephone antenna is used for the BUIILT IN phone that is used for BMW assist etc. The WIRE around the antenna core is used for the SNAP in adapter for the smart phone etc.

I suspect you may be correct, I have an iTouch w/ the BMW Adapter cable for music and use Bluetooth on my cell phone [an old Nokia 6131], can't see replacing my phone just to use the snap-in. Most of the info I get is from the BMW workshop in Hockenehim but my German just ain't that good so a few things do get lost in translation, and the beers don't help either

I am late to the party as I am a week or so away from taking delivery of my Zed4....the link to eBay is no longer working.

Someone should have bought a bulk case of these and sold to us here in the US via the forum....

I'll keep searching for a solution....

Thanks Memphis.
I also found this:
http://stores.ebay.com/Mangowalk-Inc/

So it looks like I have some options that doesn't require going outside of the states.
