Z4 Research Mode

Hello All,

Still in research mode here.

I love the look of the Z4 more and more every time I look at this site.

I'm a little concerned about the hard top. (Maintenance, care of, and reliability)

Anyone with top issues out there.....???

In 2 years on the board, I recall only a few having any real top issues. There have been several with squeaks but that can be resolved by a dealer re-adjustment.

I did have a situation where I had too tall of a suitcase just ahead of the trunk partition. When I opened the top it stoped as soon as it hit the suitcase and left the trunk open. I couldn't close it or anything until I shut the car off and let the electronics resent. I was then able to close the top, re-adjust the suitcase, and open it. No residual squeaks, rattles, or other issues either.

Running a May 2009 build, top opened as often as possible, not a single problem with it. But as it is a 2 piece hard top, the rubber gaskets do need a bit of cleaning and conditioning every 6 months or so. Only takes 15 minutes and cures any squeaks which arise. All in all, well worth the little bit of effort.

No problem so far (only 11,000 miles but many open/close cycles) and no problem so far.
Have added CTM Free software to allow opening while rolling. I'm careful to do so on flat, straight surfaces only.

Just maintain the seals with Gummi Pfledge and you'll be fine.

As long as you don't let your butler wash it, you'll be just fine.
