Forgetful Audio System...
So, here's a weird one. Since I started driving my Z4 a little over a month ago, I've noticed that the car always "forgets" that I'd set the onboard mp3 playback to be random (it's a check-box in the Options screen). Annoying, but not earth-shatteringly so.
Today, I pop a CD in and go for a short drive. When I arrive at destination, I'm part way through the third track. I shut down, hop out and lock `er up. A short while later (maybe 10 minutes, tops), I hop back in and start the car up. The CD starts playing the beginning of track one. WTF? I'll be testing to see if it keeps doing this, but I'm certain my 335i does not. Anyone heard of this? I can't find it mentioned in the forums, nor did I get a hit on Google. Putzo...

This happens to me too (but for my iPod). For me, "Random" is saved unless you choose a song manually (in which RANDOM turns off) or if you choose a different playlist (RANDOM turns off as well).
From recommendation of the forum, I just set one of the convenience keys to "Random" and if it's not, I just press it instead of having to scroll through the options. Never used CD in my car so I can't comment on that, but is there an option where you either pick "continue from left off" or "continue from start"? |

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll definitely look into both of them.
With the "random" thing, I never manually select a specific track, so it should remember that it was set to "on" between uses of the car. I may get the dealer involved in this if the convenience key thing doesn't do it for me. As for the CD, I don't believe the option you spoke of exists, but I'll check. This should be a no-brainer, as why would anyone want to start a CD over from the beginning each time they use the car?

After going for one more ride last night and hopping in and out a couple of times, the system remembered where the CD was. Must be I had a temporary glitch. <whew>
As for the "random" thing, I took Cedar's advice and programmed it into a convenience key. We'll see how that goes.

I don't have idrive and I lose Random every time I turn off the car. So I always have to re-select it every time. So it's now part of my start-up ritual: parking brake off, driving control to sport, CD player to Random

Mine stays on random unless I manually select something.
However, as mentioned, I use my iPod so it's possible my selecting random on the iDrive makes the iPod go into Random mode so it stays that way after shut-off. Never used it with a CD so it is very possible it turns off random on shut-off. Will have to try it... |
