I'm running BMS cones , they are louder than stock but they are quite quiet generally compared with other intakes Ive used on other cars.
Are you going to modify an OEM one or are you returning your car to stock ? |

I'm running AFE dual cone. I like the fact it has a heat shield and seals against the hood. Also it mounts in pretty secure, where as BMS just kinda hang there.

I am back and forth on this project. As many of you know, or didn't know our airbox flows more air than the 1,3, and 5 series N54 cars.
The only N54 cars that flow more air than the Z4 air intake setup is the F01 7 Series and the E71 X6 with the N54, which I am in the process of going through conversion with, test fitment, and clearing which will require converting the vacuum lines and inlets also. I am recording every single part that is needed including the vacuum converters, canisters. All this in order to maintain the stock parts. Its not going to be cheap. Inlets will have to be after market though and I am working on that also to be an E89 Z4 complete kit A more simple solution is this also that I have been working on is modifying the current Z4 airbox to allow more airflow. Things are very slow on the two projects, when I am slow and bored then I revisit them |

So the shorthand ... you are after the intake (not so much the airbox)? You've posted about this before, but it has been kind of vague ... so I'm wondering ;-)
Thanks, Filippo p.s. bimmersoft cables finally in stock and mine arrived today. Will do initial flash on the weekend.

This would be the ultimate goal for the setup if the selected intake box is not enough to do the job. Never know it might be an alternative for those special occasions I would able to go back and forth. Here is the factory inlets for the F01/E71 that are 2" in diam However end connectors to the turbo can on be used on the F01.E71 turbos that have a locking mechanism on them. The idea is to use these inlets as a mock up for a bigger diameter inlet system with ends that can attached to the Z4 turbos without having to also convert the turbos over to the F01/E71 turbos unless you need new turbos. Example: Here are the two intake boxes of choice E71 F01 I prefer the E71 intake box for the Z4. Keep in mind also the vacuum lines, vacuum converters, and vacuum canisters are being converted also to a much much better setup. Your looking at about $1k in parts. This bracket is the hardest part to get. It is is a crucial part in this int eh conversion for the the cover that can only be ordered from Germany. All other parts are available on ECStuning.com Last edited by BQTuning; 10-20-2016 at 10:57 AM.. |
