I just spoke to John Andrews at Shaefer BMW, and he gave me the following rates for the 7/70 extended warranty on my 30 I . This is the rate for having under 10K mileage at time of contract purchase.

Gold- list 2860, sell 2160
Platinum- list 3140, sell 2440

The nav system is not covered under the gold plan . He indicated the platinum plan is what most people purchase.
7/70 is based on original in service date of new car, so it basicly covers 3 more years after the 4 year factory warranty.

Note- most folks here seem to have the 35i or 35is, which is a different pricing category than the 30i, so the listed rates would be different for these models.

This is from the dealer.
I found a service bulletin (SI B11 07 11) 11/2011,
Turbocharger failure: oil supply line blockage
all models
turbo oil supply can be restricted, causing turbos to seize up

Can you get an extended warranty AFTER the original has expired? I am looking to get an 09 35i in the next few months but there will likely be no warranty on it. Can I get the 7/70k and extend by three years even if the original is expired?

Yes you can get the BMW extended Vehicle protection plan on a Z with under 50K that is out of OEM warranty. However you will pay a higher premium vs a car still under OEM warranty.
1. Compare the cost of a good Z in OEM warranty.
2. Compare the cost of a car out of OEM warranty-should be a better price.
3. Compare the cost of a CPO car.
4. Compare the cost of a Z under OEM and the cost of the BMW Extended warranty with under 50K.
5. 4. Compare the cost of a Z out of OEM warranty and then the cost of the BMW Extended warranty with under 50K.
This will put you where you stand on the total cost. Car plus warranty. Again do to pay full price for the BMW dealer plan. These are negotiable. I saved $700 direct form the dealer and purchased it at the end of the month when the sales guy needed to meet quota.

Acccording to 3 dealers in FL (I checked) , this is not correct. Once it is out of OEM warranty, The BMW extended Protection plan is not available, period.

O.O That would blow! Can anyone else chime in on this? Up until now I had assumed it was like a "Best Buy Geek Squad" kinda thing where they give your car an inspection to make sure its all good before offering you the additional warranty (at a premium).

You can get mechanical breakdown insurance but it will be third party not through the manufacturer.

Definitely read the contract careful and check the financial statements if its a small insurance co.

+1. I've heard about the companies going out of business and there goes your warranty.

You are correct. My Mistake.

Attached is the new Extended Vehicle Protection Plan effective April 2013. This program is for "In Warranty" from original date of purchase vehicles ONLY.

Is there anyone with experience using Fidelity ? There is a huge price difference between BMW and Fidelity. I talked to my service adviser and she mentioned they are pretty good.

I got the Gold 3 years/70k BMW Extended warranty 3 days before my OEM warranty expired for $2670 in June. My local dealer met the competitive price offer by Schaffer BMW, saving $700. The dealer told me this was $50 over cost and it was at the end of the month for quota. I can post a copy of the contract . Most dealers have the capability to negotiate on these warranties per the BMW GM.

EXACTLY
This was why my only choice was a BMW ONLY plan or none at all. The $700 I saved made the BMW plan easier to accept and getting all BMW ONLY service was the deal maker, ( for me)

How did you save $700? Doesn't the BMW plan cost same in all dealers?
