Yeah, right. The BMW engineers and designers in the M Divison couldn't wait to do an M version of the X5, X6, and get started on those diesel models - they've got total autonomy.

The same BMW engineers and designers had no support for the previous M versions. They did the Z3MC on their own time, and the Z4 coupe was designed by an outside vendor to show how cheaply it could be done because BMW wouldn't even attempt it themselves. Get real.

So much for "inevitable".

I'm sorry but upon reading your post I did a quick search here, there and a few other places, including a search for BMW info released at the Geneva motor show, but couldn't find an official mention of this confirmation.

Could you please provide a link?

When asked about a possible Z4M, Dr. Nitschke said: "In the current generation we won't bring a Z4M, but for the successor we're thinking about it."

Brembro brakes, ESS tune, KW suspension, eisenmann exhaust and you will be faster, stop quicker and sound better the any Z4M BMW would release.
Taking the M3 into considering. (Z4 can't be more powerful)
Unless they have the 4.0 V8 from the M3, but you won't be far behind.
If you need the Z4M that badly the build yourself one!

I think having an M is still a better option to modding since it really needs no outside work (some just want to drive fast out of the factory or some just doesn't want to deal with modding) and it is also covered by BMWs warranty. At least that's how I see it.

Fair comment about the warranty, if you need an M that badly then you would be happy taking a risk on the warranty. I know i have.
Modding is not difficult if taken to a specialist.
I'm currently running 390hp and soon to upgrade to 430hp with a few mods.
I smoke M3 V8 all day long and the new M5 couldn't get past me the other day.
I all depends on how much power you need, Vishnu Performance have the N54 engine running over 600hp. It's a matter of cost vs power vs needing warranty.
Underground racing have a Lambo running 1500hp, i dont think they are bothered about warranty. It's the risk you run when wanting more power.
It's all good fun!

I wrote this in 2010 when it was very much in discussion at that time. But the first rule in the auto industry is "All of the above applies today , it may be different tomorrow."

In principle the template for such a car was very much the Z4 GT car with its fixed roof. But because the Z4 is a Roadster first , other markets could not do without the Roadster, the US being one. It was then everything started to get out of the comfort zone that makes the marketing people anxious.
Factor in the engine choices and it became clear it was not going to meet the numbers.
The proposal could not meet the expectations and everything M does has to make money , depending on your opinion of the X-M's - They do make a lot of money and are one reason why BMW's profit margin in 2011 was second just behind Audi. Now the 3er is online and that car is manufactured to increase its profit margins over the E90.

Back to the Z4, a Life Cycle Impulse is due around this time next year which will see a slight refresh as per the usual cosmetic and technological changes and some additional engineering tweaks to keep the car current in light of advancing competitors.
Expect the Z4iS to be absorbed into the BMW M Performance line to enhance its role further as a quasi-M car.

Fine you know something that I did not know, so you told us something there is, however, no need to get nasty is there now?

Slightly off topic Scott, would you know when the 335i Coupe Luxury will be rolling off the assembly line and when one can expect it to see it in the showrooms In the US and Canada?

Much appreciated ... I am thinking of it as a DD and eventually our only car.

PS. Fellows at the Feb. 2012 International Auto Show only said "sometime next year"
