Z4 and speed bumps???

hi there, i plan on getting a z4 as a summer car but i'm worried that it will scrape on these speed bumps. i've always driven the x5 so i never had to worry about speed bumps/pot holes and etc

should i be worried? thanks.

If you get 296 style wheels then I think wheel and tire insurance is pretty much a necessity, but I would stay way from 296's like the plague.

With other wheels I have not seen or read about any unusual problem, so I wouldn't (and didn't) spend money on wheel and tire insurance.

my 0.02 opinion

Even with the lowered (by 10mm) adaptive suspension - it is only the most aggressive speed bumps and driveways that present a hazard.

Stop logs (the concrete lump that stops you driving too far forward in a parking ******* are another problem though - many of them are too high for the front bumper and even some are too high for the rear exhausts.
Approach with caution.
(I have even thought about mounting a low front camera instead of a rear reversing camera)

I have had my 35is which sits a little lower than the 30/35i for 2 months and have not scraped the bumper once on anything including speed bumps. Now I do live in Tennessee where we supposedly have some of the best repaired roads around but I feel like I am in a SUV compared to my previous Lotus Esprit and current Gallardo which I really had to watch out for.

^ wait! so the Z4 doesn't have front and rear parking sensor option? parking sensors should detect these parking stops, no?

I have the biggest most obnoxious speed bumps on my block, so much so that i put air ride on my last car as to not scrape anymore lol

I havent scraped once with the Z.

just go slow and if it's really steep, go at an angle.

No.
Too tall for the bumper lower edge.
Too short for the parking sensors.

Agreed, at least for the ones I encounter most frequently. Fortunately this car is so short that there is rarely a legitimate worry about pulling far enough into a parking space.

I slow WAY down for speed bumps and try to navigate around potholes. Here in New Hampshire, the latter means I typically look like a drunken bumper car driver.

No need to be worried at all, just take the bumps very very slow you be fine.

You read well my friend, when I drove my Z4 I did take the speed bumps very slow when I had to do so, mostly I made detours in the parking lots to avoid them ... still do ... I hate them

I made it a habit to back into parking spaces that worked out fine all the time.

+1 At an angle will clear most bumps.

This is actually a condition of driving in Queensland.
Everyone has to stay out of my way.

I have a E85 Z4 3.0 and initially had trouble with the speed bumps around London. I sadly cannot count the number of times I've heard the scraping noise from the bottom of the front bumper You learn to slow down more but occasionally you can still get caught out by a change in gradient that doesn't look too bad.

The speed bumps in London would qualify as mountain ranges in other countries...
