Tranquility - if you want to see mine up close (iDrive etc), PM me and maybe we could meet up.
I think you'll find many features you'll like witin the iDrive and no, you don't specifically need an iPod for playback. There are many storage features as mentioned above already i.e. 12gig hdd etc which you could take advantage of. Now, my car does not have DCT or Adaptive Suspension, but has everything else, so if you're interested in seeing one up close, just let me know. As noted, you're already dropping somewhere around ~ $55k, so don't skimp on some of the available options, particularly if your planning on keeping this car for sometime. It's been my experience that you may regret it and trying to retrofit some of the items is either going to be a real PITA or perhaps not even do-able. Regards Dave

Re servotronic, one sales said all it does is lighten the steering feel. I already thought that the steering was light enough, so I guess it's not useful for me? |

I know I'll need a nav unit, but wonder how upgradable BMW's is vs aftermkts? I'll need to play w/ the idrive to see what it can actually do to make a better decision too. |

Further I also read that some have said that they now regret not getting it in the first place. Once again good luck and you are doing well to inform yourself before you purchase. It is very easy to fall in love with this car at first hand and miss out on what else you could have done. As the saying goes; "Love is blind" ~grin~ so you are doing the right stuff by informing yourself well

To illustrate, put the car in sport+ (really, this is the mode I use 90% of the time, unless I'm just highway driving) - you'll see the small DSC warning light on the dash. Now press the DSC off button and hold it for a couple of seconds. You'll get a big yellow caution light in the dashboard adaptive display, as well as a warning on the top line of the iDrive display telling you DSC is turned off. That, I would not do if it is too wet... This allows for uncontrolled wheelspin, and is there in case you ever get stuck in snow or sand, or other such substance... So now the demonstration is over, so press the button again and turn it back on before you hurt someone (or more importantly, scratch up your awesome new ride!)

Thanks.
Wow - you get so many options there. We only get about 6-12 things in total we can option, depending on the model. (extended leather, alarm, ivory package, TV, multistack CD/DVD, and wheel choices - plus a few more on the 30 and 35i) Eg we cant buy one here without heated seats (even in 40degC+ NOrth Queensland) and all the models you get in the US came standard here with iDrive/nav/middlespec audio/PDC/etc/etc/etc. ONly the 23i can be bought without iDrive. Its not even a delete option. This is helping to explain (to me) why it is $50-$70K there and $110-$130K+ here. Given the taxes are high as well, they just dont want this car to be "affordable" over here for some reason...

Re Nav & iDrive:
Without iDrive, you'll still get bluetooth handsfree with the premium package, iPod control with the premium sound, and a 4 function computer (standard). With iDrive, you'll add navigation with real time traffic, plus the nav, audio (including radio, CD, Sat radio, and aux/iPod), full phone functions, on board computer, and vehicle status and settings are in one integrated menu driven system. Plus as mentioned it adds voice control for many functions and the hard drive for music storage if you don't have an iPod.

Nice one - I like the red.
And envious of your short time between decision and collection!

Wow! That is my favorite color combo. For some reason, it doesn't matter what wheels you have on that color combo because they all seem to go. Very nice! Congrats.
