z4 TT or boxster spyder?
Cant decide which one to pick as a weekend/fun semi-DD car. I already have a e46 as a DD.(Boxster Spyder not the regular boxster or boxster s)
Z4 over Boxster Spyder= Retractable hardtop over manual soft-top Interior minus the seats mod friendly Cheaper Boxster Spyder over Z4 Exterior by a far margin Bucket seats Lighter with LSD mid-engine setup and engine sound Spec both out and its 10k difference. Fully loaded z4tt or Boxster spyder with full leather, bucket seats, A/C and Nav i only want a 2 seater vert, and it came to these 2. Which one would you pick? Why? VS I rest my case To go on topic.. I find the Z4 way more beautiful, inside and ouside. Its more exclusive, you see way less of them on the road. I prefer the sound of the Z4 35i over the nasty tinny Porsche sound. The Z4 is faster in a straight line, and for normal road use. Not on the track, but hey how often are you racing on the track? And then only it will be a second a lap slower or something. Who really cares about that. My main reason for going to the z4 is the uber awesome interior, the place where YOU spend most of your time. In the Porsche its just not as nice, not as refined. Oh and if you chip your 35i, it will eat the boxster alive on the track as well... |

What kind of answers do you expect in a Z forum?
And why do feel that you have to rely on the opinion of others if you intend to purchase a car YOU have to drive the next years? Sorry, but it seems that you are buying things you don't need with money you don't have in order to impress people you don't like... Best regards Mick |

If you look around this board, you'll find many threads devoted to comparing some version(s) of the Z4 with some version(s) of the Boxster. I haven't been here that long, and already this seems like a very well-discussed topic. If you do your research, I think you'll find lots of information being shared by members of this board about their choices.
Overall, I chose the Z4 over the Boxster because I wanted a more sophisticated and comfortable car that could double as a daily driver. The Boxster typically gets the nod as the better car for performance driving characteristics, but that just doesn't describe the bulk of the time I spend behind the wheel.

I won't get into the looks or the sound which are totally subjective (and anyway, I disagree). I have only driven an early (mk 1) Boxster and a recent Cayman and based on those I can well imagine that the Porsche would be more fun to drive. 10k worth more fun? NO. And the z4 wins in most other respects. I'd add that it wouldn't take 10k to make the z4 as much or more fun than the Porsche.
However, if I felt another car looked better ("by a far margin") and sounded better and if it is to be a toy for the weekend and if 10k was no thing as seems to be the case, I would not consider anything else but that car. If I bought anything else, I know I'd regret it every time I saw one. She may be cheaper and have a better personality but you'll never be happy dating the ugly friend. Since I discovered car forums, I have found them to be really helpful but I wonder how anyone even finds the motivation to reply unhelpfully, bordering offensively, to a simple request for help. At the time of writing, the original post has been read 42 times so a number of people have had nothing useful to contribute. Most didn't feel the need to announce the fact. |

Sorry, but I must demonstrate my ignorance of acronyms: what does "tt" stand for when referring to the Z4?
Thanks, Danny

My thoughts here: http://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=312841
IMHO, the Boxster would be better if you were competing in it, but only then. Z4 hands down for all other purposes and users. |

Maybe this whole topic should get summarized in a Sticky? It does appear to be popular.

Eclivia,
I would likely put it down to this. If you're after a car whose priority is more 'performance' then perhaps you need to look to the Porsche. If instead you want something a little more refined but with 95% of the performance or the Porsche then perhaps the Z4 is the one for you. If you're really going to spend this kind of money on a car I would strongly recommend that you take both out for an extended test drive and then decide. £10K is a lot of money and only a test drive will tell you if the Porsche is worth the extra. It's whatever makes you feel the best. Personally I don't think you'll go far wrong with either but you don't want to be spending lot's of money only to then get home and wish you had bought the other car. |

And I was going to say earlier about a manual roof not being an issue for me but after watching that video . . . . WHAT A FAFF! (UK term) If I take off the days where driving roof down would not be appropriate (most days in London) and then the days where I couldn't muster the enthusiasm to perform the origami I've just seen, I calculate the roof would be off zero days per year (apart from the days the shop has to replace it because someone has sliced through it again). If I lived in a gated beachfront villa in 325 day sunshine where the worst crime was leather pants, maybe I sit down and think about it some more. z4 wins, Game over.

i think its a total joke.. on the one hand you introduce panamera which is the epitomy of a luxury electronic car and that means you believe that people prefer more comfort than hard rock conditions and on the other hand you build this thing ... what can i say ?
who is responsible for this mistake ? at least upgrade the engine, the sound , something. They expect to sell this to people who are not just collecting porsches vehicles ? |
