Use of snap-in cradle to listen to iPhone music

The cradle charges the battery, but I can't operate the iPod music library through the iDrive.

Anybody can give me some advice?

Does your iPhone (the cradle is for an iPhone NOT, as far as I know, an iPod Touch) even show up on the iDrive screen? It should be an external USB device and will defer to any other USB device you have connected. In other words if you have a USB thumb drive connected, your iPhone won't work in my experience though it may still charge.

EDIT: The followong link to demos might help:

Thank you for your response.
First of all, the cradle is for iPhone, not iPod Touch.
But the iPhone doesn't show on the iDrive screen.
I have nothing connected to the external USB (in the glove box), and I have nothing else connected...

Hello,

What is the cradle part no. and where abouts did you get it from?
I purchased one on ebay and I have the same problem.

From my reading through the forums it seems there is a new cradle that will let you do this (ie. charge and music access).

I couldn't be bothered ordering the new cradle as i already have an ipod playing via the official 6FL cable. And I've spent enough on the wrong cradle as well!

Most probably you are missing option "6NF" ("extended connectivity of the music player in the mobile phone").

See this thread, post #21.

Best regards

I have with some cars had problem connecting the phone. If we remove the battery in the phone and then try to connect again it sometimes works. If this is possibel with ipod I dont know, but you can try!

Sorry: this is not possible with an iPod or iPhone as the battery cannot be removed.
