Issue with Windows when putting Top Up
This is really no biggie, but wonder if anyone may know the answer to this:
When I am in the car and putting my top up holding the button on the center console and continue to hold it down, the 4 windows never go back up. I have to use the all windows button. I have had other bimmer convertibles and know that the windows normally go up if you continue to hold that button down. Is this normal for the Z4? When I use my comfort access to close the top with the remote, the windows do go up. Not sure why they don't when holding the button on the middle console though?

My windows do not go up if using the center console button. Don't know why it would be different than other cars but I am used to that.

Ok, Thanks all! I thought it was just a problem on my car. I guess it is just normal that way.

The US manual pg 39 says
"The side windows move down when the hardtop is opened or closed. Convenient closing* If you continue pressing the buttons after the LED 3 goes out, the windows move back up.<" Might be a setting in idrive or something that needs to be set. JZ |

Well, I have not found anything in iDrive. maybe the dealership needs to program it in there just like the sensitivity of how early the headlights come on automatically?

I can confirm that on my UK Z4, when putting the roof backup using the button on the centre console, the windows also go backup. There's a few seconds delay between the roof completing it's cycle (i.e. locking into place) and the windows going up but they do go up. And this is *without* comfort access.
I think it has something to do with the various markets. For example, by default UK Z4's don't allow you to open the boot via the key (using the open boot button on the key) if the car is locked. You need to unlock the car first and then open the boot (either via the key or using the BMW emblem). Apparently it's to prevent people from locking their key in the boot. I got the dealer to program the car so that I *can* unlock the boot with the car locked. Besides......you can always call BMW to unlock your car if necessary. @Bimmerkat: same thing here; "all windows" button is not one touch. |

maybe it is a comfort access thing, if you have it you can't via center, if you don't you can.

Seems to be a region thing then. On European cars, the windows come up, on cars for the States they don't.
I would suspect that the issue can be addressed by your dealer; they should be able to program it. |

Live in the US and do not have comfort access. Windows do not go up.
I have an appointment setup with the dealer in Dec. If no one has any new news, I'll see if reprogramming can be done. I do remember the dealer telling me the windows do go up. --Chuck |

I can only recommend a "comfort module" for one-touch handling of the roof with key fob and with the buttons in the car even up to 50km/h (great show on "good roads"). As an additional benefit, with that module you may choose if you want the windows up or down after each opening/closing the roof.
Unfortunately they do not sell to NA due to liability issues Edit: They indeed sell to Canada, but not to the US. Best regards Mick |
