Driving for no reason

Time to fess up; how many of you take your Z4 for a ride for no reason whatsoever except just... riding?

I for one bought the car in part for that reason. I got rid of my previous ride (a Lexus) because I wasn't putting on enough miles to justify its cost. So this time I wanted a car that went way beyond transportation, but could also be a fun toy.

For example, tonight, I had to put the car back in the garage before the rain comes. I hate starting a cold engine just to do that. So the 20 Ft/6 meter move turned into an 8 mile/13 km top-down ride on some hill roads and some heel-and-toe practice. Just because.

So come on, who else here enjoys the same guilty pleasures?

It's a given. Why on earth would anyone by a Z4 and only drive it when you have to. That's what regular cars are for - no?

Guilty as charged! I take the long way to and from the office, going the twisty back-roads in stead of the shorter drive on the highway.

Something that for us motorcyclists, is common practice. Not to get from point A to point B, but simply riding for the shear joy of it. The Zed4 is one of the few "cagers" that I've owned that I will drive just for the joy of driving it. Although, I will admit, my first choice is still a motorcycle. There is a saying that motorcyclists are the only ones who understand why dogs put their heads out of the window while riding in a car.....I might add to that Zed4 drivers too.

Every weekend baby! Just came back from long weekend trip to Vermont to cruise around in the fall colors. Drove top down from work tonight- 70 degrees in mid-October, not too many days like that left.

I love the exhaust note and whistling turbo. For me, it is impossible to go home straight after work without enjoying the car for 40 50 kms

"Going to Lowes, honey." It's about 14 miles down the beach, with a Starbucks next door. On a sunny Florida day ... a nice ride. Guilty your honor.

I bet on a nice day you head west on Highway 1 for a few KM just to look at the Rockies then head back to the city.

PS. Do the boys and galls still meet downtown monthly in the summer time with there Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsches closing one of the streets? I had dinner outside one June evening and saw it all happen it was fun.

I guess so!

It's amazing how forgetful I've gotten since I got this car. "Gotta go back to the hardware store, I forgot that $0.04 washer!"

I do that every day, head west on #1 to work then home at night to the city. Been doing that for 22 years and trust me, I don't miss rush hour at all. As for the sports cars closing roads for a monthly meet, I've never seen it ..

You must be working at one of the gas plants or oil wells lucky guy properly an operator or manager of some sort ... perhaps you even signed my time sheet once ,,, one never knows

I took pictures of all them cars, need to find them on one of my computers when I do I post the link, some fine looking cars. I think it was on 5th street or there about (the street run south to north) walking distance from the TCPL tower.

It's a 5 minute drive from my gym to home, but it can take up to 90 minutes sometimes. Go figure.

99.99% of people have no idea what they're missing.

When I lived in Bankview I would go in and out to work on 17th Ave, it goes all the way to Highway 22 (with a couple of little jogs through Springbank). Nice and relaxing in the AM with no police patrols, even better coming home Moved to the NW quadrant and just use the #1 now, nice views but not as good a drive. If I get stressed out I like to take a blast out to #22 then north up by Cochrane then do a loop back to my place. It takes about an hour and is very stress relieving....

Yeup, I do that all the time. I live 400 meters from work, so I walk to work everyday. But on the weekends, I go on these 5-6 hour drives. Put on over 10,000km (6000 miles) in less than 4 months since I got the car, all from just driving for fun.
