Is the E85 overstyled?
I tell myself that I buy drivers cars without much regard for prestige or pretension. Don't get me wrong I appreciate good looks like everyone else. But the E89 is about the most ostentatious car I have owned. But...
Today I went to a Corvette meet. My silver Z4 looked very subtle compared to the new Stingrays and Grandsports. Wish I had some photos. I came away thinking the z4 was quite tasteful and certainly not over the top. However I can see why they put the Z4 out of business here in the USA, with recent models having 440HP for the same price, And most people love the somewhat glitzy look. |

I for one can't figure out what you're asking here. You seem to be confusing the E85 with the E89 and the C7 Corvette! What's your point?

Recent models of what? Similar roadsters or some other car that has 440hp put the Z4 out of business? If you are trying to say the cheaper and more powerful 'vetts is why the Z4 was being redesigned I think you are wasting energy trying to explain they are the in the same market. Maybe technically they are in the same market.. I don't know but I know a Corvette is not a similar roadster that makes me think I would choose one of those over my Z4. |

My previous car was an E89 Z4 and I currently own a CZ6 and there no comparison between these two cars. The interior is of the Z4 is more refined, but that is the only advantage.

I meant the E89
Just some thoughts about the Z after mingling with late model vettes. I think I was having quite a bit of wine at the time that I wrote it..

Back again with some cheap Cotes du Rhone, Perrin 2014
I agree with cruisindownthestreet. I am going by MSRPs for sports cars. I am curious what NoQuarter considers to be competitors in the same market as the E89.
A few years ago my E89 msrp was about 65K. Now that will buy you a new Corvette. Porsches are as we know, somewhat more. Mercedes seems to have roadsters in several brackets starting at around 60K and now going to 200 or so. Whatever, my wineglass is empty once again. My poorly stated original point was simply that the E89, while stylish is not over the top. As for the C7, it is like a 911 in that everyone seems to want one. Over 40,000 C7s were sold last year, which is more than all the z4s, 911s and Caymans combined. I have had them all over the years except for the C7. So many cars, so little time. In the meantime the demure z4 still rocks when whipped. |

the primary variables in corvettes selling more is the american "muscle," the "cheaper vs more expensive to maintain", and the "buy american" hype.
