Disappointed with shifter

I just acquired a mint 8800 mile 2010 Z4 3.0 with the 6 speed transmission. I'm someone who has owned many 6 speed trans cars, Corvettes, Miatas, etc. I'm really disappointed with the Z4. The shift gates are vague and its very hard to make clean shifts. Now I know why they talk about the BMW money shifts. I can't remember missing as many shifts as I have with this car. 2nd to 5th, etc. Its very unsettling. Anyone else had this problem and is there a fix?

I have to say that your experience is completely different than mine. I have a 2012 35i. The shifting feels precise and slightly "notchy" as you drop into gear. Rarely do I miss a gear.

Follow up. I looked it up on real oem and the 30i and 35i both have ZF transmissions, but different models.

Something's definitely not right. I've never had an issue with mis-shifting or even getting close. The BMW that had the most moneyshift issues was the E36 and that was largely because the trans mounts would deflect too much under cornering. I'd take a look at the shifter bushings and see if they're damaged or see if the PO installed a crappy aftermarket shifter.

What surprised me was some of the vetttes I drove had ZF transmissions and shifted great. Maybe its the shift linkage thats loose. I'll have to have it checked.
