As a Europhile..born of an Estonian mother and Ukrainian father in England now living in Scotland I metaphorically wept by a quiet river when Brexit happened..maybe we should set up a Z4 trading area where we buy things for each other in our country then ship them as ‘gifts’

Im sure you dont have to go crazy with ignition when running stage 1 or even 2... Uprated turbos is probably a different story...
There are more reasons to go the B58 route than just reliability and since B58 coils cost the same as N54 coils and the extra mateiral is literally just some cables, plugs and a metal plate, I feel the cost and complexity is worth it.

You get about 2X or more secondary inductive energy from a B58 coil compared to OEM N54 coils and the spark time is 40-50% longer plus the IGBT temp is kept lower. Spark duration especially becomes important when you run higher compression and start advancing ignition timing which obviously is common on the N54 engines.

I currently own other vehicles (High performance Ducatis) that toast coils and it's well worth your peace of mind to swap to a more reliable solution if you can do so at relatively similar cost of replacing all the coils as eventually you will have to anyway.

Guess i have to read more about this b58 coil mod... 3 years ago this wasnt really a thing... at least it wasnt wellknown tested and proven solution... there was precision raceworks kit... but that wasnt cheap...
My knowledge about mods is maybe a bit older... i used to read about them alot in the beginning but as im on my 8th year owning my z4 then i dont really do any research for mods anymore...

Only thing i want to do modwise is upgrade the intercooler... stock one heatsoaks too much on hot summer days so that i notice powerloss from that. But im not in a hurry and am looking for a good deal. Even had one pop up on facebook z4 group for a really good price... someone had upgraded intercooler installed for a year so it was still in great condition and then upgraded again to an even bigger one. I was quick to respond but one guy beat me to it.

The B58 coils are better than the precision raceworks coil mod. The precision raceworks coil mod works by having a longer dwell time (primary circuit charging time) before it releases its spark. Due to this longer charge time, the PR kit negatively affects IGBT temps by a lot. It runs by far the hottest of any coil kit which isn’t really great. It still doesn’t match the B58 OEM coils in performance.

HAha B21 could have a digital garage sale of his leftover Z4 parts. I might be interested as well. I just pulled the trigger on the Mr12Volt box now that they also have OEM mic support. Pre-ordered it in July, just got the shipping notification two days ago. Thinking whether I should install backup came too, but really don’t like the current state of camera install options… Have to think a little unless someone has come up with a very nifty solution that is centered and doesn’t require drilling holes.

So we have two Z4-ers from Estonia ?

In such a small country if you accelerate too hard you’ll be in St Petersburg…

Yes really like my Mr12 volt box..works really well and I like how you can toggle between the OE nav and the iPhone navs…

It’s so useful for sorting out navigation when you need to quickly re-plan..

Also become a huge fan of YouTube music streaming

The main things I’ve got of any value I’m selling are

Pair of stock turbos in perfect working order…useful for part ex..

Stock 35is exhaust system

Stock downpipes with CATS

Wagner Evo 1 FMIC

Adaptive dampers and springs …only useful for refurb

Stock FMIC

35is diff ..useful for LSD swap

New NGK coils

Internal trim set useful for re trimming

Pair of new VSRF DCIs

I will have a 677 amp and most of the speakers

Nothing very exciting..

35is exhaust back section is different from what is on my 35i... but i dont think its that different (louder/ better) from stock 35i system for swapping it to be worth it... plus shipping an entire exhaust system gets expensive. and i have done golf T mod on mine anyway...

But im still interested in the intercooler

Hehe I just did the Golf Tee mod today. Found out my actuator had stuck closed, even after I pulled the vacuum line. Had to pry it open. But doesn't matter, now it can be stuck open forever

Mine was stuck aswell when i did mine... also try to secure it open... i used zipties i think... vibrations can close it... happened to me once.. and make sure that vacuum line is plugged up tight...

Put a screw in vacuum line and sealed it with electrical tape. Also taped the line to the actuator so it won't be flopping around. I doubt any vibration will move my valve cuz it's really stuck. I think it's actually the actuator that's corroded and not the valve. Will check occassionally if it moves.
