Is clunk noise always present in Z4 ?

I have a 2011 Z4 35i - Automatic 7-Speed Double Clutch Transmission ... after a transmission leak is fixed, I noticed several sounds coming from the transmission, front and rear wheels. Today I took the car to the dealership and we narrowed down where the sound is coming from .... when I put the car in reverse or from park to drive, the noise comes from the front wheels, sometimes from both front and rear wheels. The service manager says all Z4 make this clunk noise. I swear I never heard this noise in my Z4 until they fixed transmission leak. The service manager is getting the car checked. Does your Z4 make this clunk noise ?

my DCT car makes a noise sometimes when I switch from D to R or P to D or R, but it is very much a typical gearbox engagement noise and not something i would call a "clunk" and it is certainly not from the wheels

Yep the guy above your post lol

.. And me. The DCT is a bit noisy. Noises from transmission though, nowhere else. Clicks when engaging gears. A bit of a clunk when slowing into D1

It's a noisy car, I've learned to accept it.

Honda do quiet cars, BMW don't.

My Z4 is back .. Service Manager and Tech didn't find any issue. Issue is not resolved. They checked the alignment and did some alignment. Strange .. I didn't hit anything, not even a scratch and don't think I ran into any pot holes. But they had to do alignment in around 2000 miles. I will scan the report and post here later.

The alignment on my previous Z4 was out right out of the box, so I'm not totally surprised.

Ours clunks in the rear when transitioning from the street to a short, steep upslope like in a driveway. I only hear it in the rear passenger side, but the old lady insists its both sides. Just from the sound of it, it sounds like something with the rear swaybar, maybe a bad bushing or something.

Its always quite interesting reading topics like this because you get some saying yep noises and others nope super quiet. I bet they're all the same (or close) but some people listen and worry, some people don't.

OK, so you have a couple more years on your warranty, don't sweat it. And keep requesting "Do Not Wash"!

Every Z4 with DCT I've driven makes a clunk going from D to P or R to P, etc.. It's a normal sound and I certainly would not worry about it.

It's more a loud clicking than clunking. Like Maniac said, I often don't notice it, but if there is some sort of echo or hall when driving next to a wall for example, I can here it clicking when it shifts.

They don't go Clunk. It's not a Noise. It's the sound of maturing advanced technology only imaginable in a road car just a decade ago (VW 2003, has since sold 3.5 million DCTs). Relax and enjoy your 7 forward speed experience. The 10 speed VW DCT is coming....
