Need Advise : windscreen panel cover (Top) Replace

Hi guys,

Need some advise for the scratches I have on the windscreen panel cover. There are some scratches on the windscreen panel cover (interior) and I am thinking to replace it. Is hard to remove the original one? Should I take it to dealer to do it?

If you do not want to replace it, my next solution would be to paint it with Rustoleum for Plastic. This spray paint for plastic works very well on parts like these. I would use a very fine wet sanding on the whole peice to smooth the scratches out and blend in the area.
Mask off the whole area fully and carefully as well as using a tarp on the car for overspray, again fully and carefully and spray very light coats. Then top it with a clear.
As this is not an abused area the paint surface should be long lasting.

Thank you for the tips. Is a bit more work than I thought. To save some time I may just replace it. haha

I found a brand new parts for $65. Do you know how to take the cover off? Any step by step manual I can find online?

while i am not quite sure how it is held on. the diagram from getbmwparts suggests that it might be clipped on.

Hope this helps.

It looks like the A pillar covers may overlap it and those may have to be removed first.

But for $65 I wouldn't paint it I would replace it, you will never match the color and finish. Also if you break it while removing it it's not a big deal since you will have a new one.

I am ordering one but all the dealers told me they have to order from Germany since there is not even one in US. Is ganna take a month to get the part I guess. Is possible I can just order from Germany?

Thanks

You're doing the right thing, if you was to order it from Germany and get the wrong part or damaged you would have to deal with it.

Let the dealer work that out if it happens. You do not have to accept a damaged part from them when you pick it up.
