I have an 09 with a fin.. I have Nav which includes HD and as I recall, includes SAT Ready (but no Sat).

I do get better stability at speeds over 1650 MPH.. Kind of like a center board in a sail boat.

taking a look at bmwfans website, it is the satellite antenna.

gps and dab are located in the front center of the car dash, the telephone antenna is located in the lower back of the trunk/bumper, the backup phone antenna is located somewhere in the cabin (behind the back seat or perhaps between the two seats), tv/dab aerial is in the bumper.

my guess is depending on location, you may have the sat antenna pre-installed regardless of if you purchased sat rad. at the very least, the hump is there so that it could be put inside it later.

About three years ago I downloaded a BMW Service manual "Technical Training. Product Information. E89 Complete Vehicle". It says the bump is "Satellite tuner aerial SDARS aerial (US).

Another huge thread of massive conjecture and ignorant 'fact'. It does make me chuckle when people say its fact when it's just an ignorant guess lol.

The original answer to the ops post is correct. It's a US satellite radio antenna.

This will put to rest what is under it, but not why some have it and others do not.

The following link shows it is where the SAT Radio Antenna is at.

Also, there are 2 different part numbers for that cover. I can not tell which it which by the description.

Oh and BTW, I do have Phone, Sat, Assist, but I do not have NAV and I do have the fin.
