BMW Apps won't load, iDrive reboots

I just took delivery of my 2011 Z4 3.0i and even after updating the software in the car I'm having two issues.

1) Bluetooth audio from my iPhone 6plus acts like it's muted. The phone is playing to the car via Bluetooth audio, and the volume is turned up, but nothing comes out? If I play music via USB it works. (And yes, I went back into the options and made sure that the Bluetooth audio option was selected for my phone each time I went back and forth between Bluetooth and USB)

2) BMW Apps won't load. After connecting the phone the 'BMW Apps' menu shows up and I start to see a list of the apps like Amazon and Audible, etc. But after a moment the menu freezes, the display closes and reopens (like the computer is rebooting) and I start over with the same result. It seems like it's trying to load icons for the apps, or finish loading the app list, but it freezes.

Any help / ideas?

You should consider a dealer visit for a software update.

The fee is around $150 or so and they need the car for a long while. They can update every module in the car that needs it.

If there is a real problem with the idrive, it may not take the update and they will tell what is wrong - maybe otherwise you get current and working hopefully.

Also, if you have a real maintenance issue needed on the engine, they will need
current versions of the software just to diagnose if it has not been updated since new.

Thanks! So even though I did a software update, there are some modules that aren't upgraded this way and only the dealer can do the rest?

Loaded the .bin file from the bmw.com site onto USB stick, then plugged into center console and ran software update option from menu.

Ok. Not nearly the same thing.

What you did was like updating an app on your phone.

What I am talking about is more like updating the entire software on the phone like an IOS or Android version update.
