iPhone snap-in cradle
Did anyone get the "Smartphone Integration" option? Mine didn't come with an iPhone snap-in cradle even though I selected this option. The dealer told me the snap-in cradle is an extra charge in addition to the "Smartphone Integration" option. I'm hoping they're mistaken.

Unfortunately I believe your dealer is correct......the option is only $150 and the adapters are $175-$135 so the math is correct that the adapter would not be included.

You have to buy it separately. I went through the same thing. Don't waste your time getting pissed over it, it's just how it is. But I will say that the cradle is worth it. VERY quick, easy, sleek.

Bummer...
Good call. I WAS a little pissed and disappointed. Thanks, guys. I'm thinking it was a little misleading to have an image of the cradle associated with the smartphone integration option on the website with no mention of the cradle being extra. The cradle does look sleek and easy. I've been using the cable and it's a hassle to stuff everything in the center console each time. |

Just bite the bullet. You'll be glad you did. I do wish they would have let me know ahead of time. I mean, the paying extra didn't burn me as much as having to find one and then order it. I just like having everything done at once.

Funny I just picked up my car yesterday with same question
Quote:
My other question is: I found in my trunk what appears to be in a long narrow 1 button sack, some sort of windscreen inside, but I can't seem to figure how to attach it on as there was no instructions included? Did everyone get this in their trunk? Am I missing some pieces? I never ordered the wind screen, is this standard? It looks like it is only the middle piece and It only comes as one piece that folds. Any help on this would be great.

If you want to connect your iPhone to your car with bluetooth and make phone calls through your car, then you'll need the "BMW Assist with Bluetooth" option for $750. With the "Smartphone Integration" option, you'll get another connector in the center console in addition to the connection that accepts the cable. This other connector is where you'll snap in an iPhone cradle that you'll have to order separately from the parts department for another $130-$180. The cradle allows you to easily snap in your iPhone instead of using that clumsy cable. The bmw website doesn't indicate that the cradle is separate and something you'll have to pay extra for when selecting the "Smartphone Integration" option. If you select the "Smartphone Integration" option, you'll also have to select the "iPod and USB adapter" and "BMW Assist with Bluetooth" options also. |

Hi Guys,
I got a different part number, and my 3Gs don´t play music. It charges, and i guess it uses the antena, but no ipod functions. My part number: 84 21 2 158 682 01 so i´ll have to replace it. |

That would be your windscreen, which unfolds to open [it does take a bit of force to get it to latch], and then you place it between the rear roll bars, hold the top, angle the bottom towards the back of the car and pop in down so the top mounts catch, at the same time pull/push the bottom towrds the front of the car to latch the bottom. It is a bit of a hassle to get into place, easier with the top down, but it does a great job. Several folks leave it installed, but I found with the Auto dimming mirror, it causes them not to auto dim. Check Page 39 of your manual. |

At first I wanted the "Smartphone Integration" too but then realize if I have the phone tucked in the center console it'll be hard for me to read my emails and text. Now I have an iPod plugged in the center console while leaving the iPhone on Bluetooth. Very happy with this setup...

Anyone know if a smartphone adapter cradle from a 335i will fit the Z4? I have one and am hoping it will work. Part # is: 84 21 2 151 043. One dealer told me it would work as it is the same as the new part # for the Z4. It is:
84 21 2 158 683. Can anyone confirm?

DrJason,
GR8 idea unless you live in a HOT climate like Florida.... I left a 30GB iPod in the console of my 335i cab and after a few hours in a parked closed car it was so hot you could not even touch it !! Needless to say the devicve never worked again !!! BMW does not tell you that but they give you a nice pocket little case to put it in....

It is very possible you need a software update to allow the computer to see the cradle !!

It is already a long thread, maybe time to summarize.
The "Smartphone Integration compatible craddle" is called here in Belgium "USB snap-in adapter for Apple Iphone". these factory installed options are required to use it: SA644 or SA633 (bluetooth handsfree) SA6FL (USB Audio interface) SA6NF (extended connection of music player in mobile phone aka smartphone integration) Then you'll need to buy (or make BMW offer you) a craddle or snap-in adapter for your phone. P/N for a 3G or 3G S is 84 21 2 158 683 P/N for a an older one is 84 10 9 164 213 This allows to charge the phone, use the external GSM antenna and play the music stored on the Iphone. As it is an USB adapter, the Iphone will be shown under "external sources" and when the Iphone is plugged in the craddle, the USB port in the middle console is disabled. An iphone 3G S will display a message that the accessory plugged-in has not been designed for the Iphone and that incompatibilities may exist when you place it into the craddle but it does not affect functionality. Pay attention, regular phone craddles without the usb connectionare also available the for the iphones, do not order those ones as they do not provide access to music stored on the iphone (P/N 84 21 2 158 682 for 3G(S) and 84 10 9 182 792 for older ones). For people without the USB connection, there is still the legacy ipod adapter option. That one is mounted in the glove box (only possible if no cd or dvd changer are present) |
