Reset CEL without a tool?

My search have been for not so I ask my zpost friends; I just replaced my coil packs and all is good, however, I'd sure like to know of there is a way to reset the CEL light wit out a tool or will it reset on it's own once it realizes it's been fixed after so many miles.?

If the old Coil Pack was bad then likely you will need to have the error cleared from memory. the vehicle stores all faults like that which then require a tech to resolve the issue. I would go a little further and say that most scan tools that have the erase function on it should clear that particular code and make the light go off. In some rare occasions though I have seen the light go out but the code remain in memory. I would definitely recommend that you have the code removed as well as it can throw off a tech if you ever have another issue.

possibly obvious comment, but cobb AP can be used as a scan tool to read and clear codes. probably makes sense just to get that if you have a 35i rather than a separate scan tool.

Thanks guys, was wanting to clear the code, quickly and without buying another scan tool (lost my last one) but this will provide the motivation to buy another scan tool. Naturally I will find the other one the same day I buy a new one. Hehe!

Try MHD Flasher. There's a thread about it here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1096242

The code reading and clearing functionality is free. You just need a DCAN cable which costs about $60.

COBB is now largely redundant on the N54 platform.
