Old story, beaten to death. "Porsche is a much better car"...for who? Racers? OK. Everyday drivers? No way. The Z4 is better appointed, is more comfortable and looks a hell of a lot better (will Porsche ever update their styling?) Z for me.

When I first looked at the poll the Z4 was just one percentage point highter than the Boxster. Now the Z is eight percentage points higher. Seems some Z4 enthusiasts have been doing some voting.

I will have to agree with the article about the rear of the cars. I think the Porsche has the more attractive view from the back.
Z4 is now 11 points higher than the Porsche. |

I would say Porsche has stepped up the side and rear lines of the car nicely. They have obviously been working on the glute machine, as the arse is looking better than ever. Mean while up front as boring as ever. I think the Z still has the edge on front, interior and top up views. Those perforated seats do look comfy, and Calipers & Rotors - Porsche wins hands down. They are probably closer now, but the wining edge for me is still the hard top vert. Plus BMW has a much better ED program that Porsche.
A nice BMW performance Brake kit would go a long way on the Z - maybe $400/unit if they made it an option or rolled it out across the production line. Teague it's raining in SoCal - mine is staying garage bound likely and other than working taxes it is a boring weekend.

Bottom line I didn't fit
My BMW dealer is also the Porsche dealer. I sat in a Boxer S and a Cayman S. the seats do look inviting but I just didn't fit and the pedals were to close to each other and offset to the right. I had the sicken feeling that I wasn't going to fit in the Z so I ran over to the Z on the floor just to prove that I did fit after all. Thank god.
I am 6'2" and weigh 220. Now the 911 was perfect it is not what I want. |

I got to disagree, I don't like the Boxsters rear as much as the Z4. Am I the only one who doesn't like it that it's designed too similar to the front end? Now the Boxster Spyders rear is simply beautiful but I prefer E89s short rear deck with its long front end (classic roadster look) over the 987 Boxsters rear.

Dude, rudeness is uncalled for. . . BTW all caps is shouting.
But since you, with only 78 posts on this board are going to school me, let me tell you this subject has been beat to death so many times it's beyond boring - it's insane. How would you know that, though? But, please, please, do me a big favor and start a flame war on this - use a lot of profanity, because I'm really looking forward to reporting you to the admin.

Wait a minute. Help me understand this Almighty Mr. 2,003 posts. You respond to my thread with "Can't believe this thread again, and again. . . so boring," and call me rude?
Apparently the seven plus other members who responded felt a need to provide a constructive comment... unlike your pointless and destructive comment. I realize I'm not nearly as intelligent as you are since I only have 79 (now) posts, but my advice stands. If you don't feel you have anything constructive to add or feel the subject of the thread is not interesting, then simply don't open the thread. Not that I feel I need to justify myself, I felt since the Boxster was relatively redesigned, the subject might be worthy of revisiting. But you are correct with my intent with the all caps and larger font, I was shouting it! (the exclamation point means I'm just raising my voice, by the way) Please review this post for profanity. Na, na, na, na boo, boo, you can't report me to the teacher. |

You we're doing OK until you're last line which shows a lack of maturity, but whatever, to you're credit you didn't start a flame war. But let's lay it out in black and white:
I'm am a Porsche aficionado, not the world's greatest expert, but certainly a lover of anything and everything Porsche - since I was a little kid and that's a long time. I believe that Porsche's Boxster is better than any 911 (including odd number variants they still call 911's) except in one detail - horsepower. But, Porsche's management knows full well the sky would fall if they dropped the 911's variable geometry TT in the Boxster, it would blow the doors off any factory 911. The evidence is the 911-996 fiasco when the Porsche faithful cried for management's heads because it strayed from that mystical shape we come to know and love as a 911. Having said that, how does the Boxster - refresh or no - stack up against the Z4. 1st it's a pure mid-engined driver's car. Handling and the brakes are razor sharp and steering feel is 2nd to none. 3rd it's expensive as hell. 4th the ride is rough and cabin is noisy. Lastly, Porsche's 911, Boxster and Cayman interiors all look alike and IMO very basic - even fully loaded. The materials are very nice but boring. The Z4's looks beats the Boxster hands down - not even a contest. The Z4 is a fantastic cruiser, and certainly no slouch in the handling department, it's just tough to beat a mid-engine car regardless of make or model. So what does it come down to: The same thing it has always come down to and why I find the question so boring - they are different cars, for different people, and for different driving styles. If you could get both do it, but if you have to pick one as a dd or a weekend car, canyon carving - that is much more upscale looking and driving, for the money you have to get the Z4. Sorry you got butt hurt but don't take it personal.

Teague, thanks for your well-put analysis (I agree with you and my post said the same thing in fewer words)
Michael, it always amazes me how people will say things to others on the internet in the comfort and safety of their homes that they would never say face to face. Complete lack of civility on your part, which is probably not entirely your fault as your just mimicking our culture these days.
