I raise the back section part way, and brace it with a small wood stick, which has carpet on both ends. This gives me plenty of time to clean it without it falling down.

Did you ever try to start and stop the top opening/closing sequence? When I had mine I paused in this position to clean the rear window. I am also 6 foot no problem. Mind you I had a roof module on that car that allowed me to close and or open the roof while the car pulled away from a traffic light, so it may not work in your case.

I have stated and stopped to process a bunch of times, but it only holds by itself for a few minutes, and then slides down rather quickly. I came up with the board to take to load off the hydralic system, and to give me plenty of time.

Funny you mention that, I tried to do that last weekend and I was surprised to find out the top went down by itself, didn't stay up. On my 335 it did but not on this one.

I use a small squeege.. You know the broom like tool with a sponge on one end and a rubber wiper on the other. Sort of a pain but only takes 10 or so seconds.

Oh, top closed from the passenger seat.

The advantages of being a small female....I can kneel on the front seat facing the rear of the car and reach my hand through the roll hoops . I do like the idea of stopping the roof midway but that kind of scares me at the same time.

Actually, the manual says no to interrupt the roof from opening and closing because it's bad for the mechanism/motor.

So how does a tinting guy put tinting film on the rear window if it goes down after a few minutes?

I dod have a 2009 35i and the module was installed when I purchased that car slightly used in early 2010. Perhaps it had different electronics then your "is"

I would not block anything from preventing the roof from going dawn (without checking at the dealer if that would harm the hydraulic system), it might damage something... just my 2 cents on that one.

Jayda seams to have it down path ... just need to find yourself a smaller volunteer for that task I'm sure you come up with some sort of a handy tool.

they system has pressure sensors which cut power when to high so it should not damage hydraulics when blocked, but still can't be good for it.

I raise the rear portion just high enough to get the brace into place, then the system "relaxes" just enough the rest on the brace. As long as you do not try to close the roof down to the support and just let it relax all should be well. Confirmed this with my BMW folks before I tried it. The ottom of the brace sits over the small hole on the cover near the trunk, which is where BMW places the alignment tool when they adjust the top.

All hydraulic systems can be manually pushed through or manipulated without damage when unpowered. The BMW system is no different. The problems occur when they are running and overloaded. So as long as you remove the brace before you operate the system no harm no foul.

I don't think he was cutting you down but was hoping to watch you clean the window.

Being 6'6" I have had much pain with that window. Will have to try the prop thing!

It means "I'd like to watch that".
Your methos may work on the dirty window but nothing will clean up Z4Z4Z4's dirty mind.

There are car washes you can go to Z4Z4Z4 that cater exactly to your "special needs".
I think they specialise in convertibles as they are called "Topless carwashes".

Sorry Jayda, but you're the one of the very few women that post regularly here. You just have to put up with some male nonsense sometimes!
