Alfa Giulia QV wins BBC Top Gear's "Best Cars 2016"
A lot of us car enthusiasts wish that Alfa does well with the Giulia so the brand can enjoy a re-emergence worthy of its historical past. Winning BBC Top Gear's "Best Cars 2016" will help a little ;-). Enjoy the read!

So idiotic that they're dropping the MT from the US with the slush box being the only transmission available! Way to start off on the wrong foot reintroducing yourself to the US market!

Talk about driving at and beyond the limit! None of us would drive at that limit and still bemoans the fact should have put a proper DCT or offered both the auto and the manual..both the DCT or MT would offer a superior driving experience. A slush box can be "acceptable", but is a complete waste in a car like this and is a big corner cut. Would take the 7 secs slower MT (which is 7 seconds slower in the hands of a race driver that none of us on this board can emulate on that track) any day of the week vs an auto. DCT would be great too. Even if they sold very few cars with MT, would have done a lot more for the brand. Very disappointing!

It's not always re shift speeds/smoothness when comparing DCT vs AT but the power loss due to the existence of a tq converter. I wonder what the figures are in comparison?

Point taken, and I will take a manual over a dual clutch or automatic any time, lap times are not as important as involvement for me ;-)

This is the weird part because Alfa already has a dct unit in the 4C IIRC. They screwed both the traditionalists and the tech guys by only offering the AT here.

But you're right, with the US nowadays probably having the biggest group of advocates for the manual transmission in performance cars (probably because having lived with automatics setting the general available trend for over half a century)

Seen this three times now. Once at NAIAS, another one wrapped in camo 2 months ago, and another last week on the road (red w/ black wheels). Seems like the true successor to the E90 that the F30 never was.

My impression, being italian and having seen some of those cars around:
Pros:
Cons:
To be honest, If I would like a luxury brand I would buy a Bimmer, an Audi, or a Mercedes. If I would like to buy an extreme luxury car (like M5) to compete with a Quadrifoglio, I would buy a Maserati, Aston Martin, Jaguar, etc. Too many competitors on same basket. You have to be a fanboy to buy an Alfa Romeo Nowadays. |

But you're comparing it to cars that are up to 2 or 3 times its price? You cant give the giulia a bigger compliment!
