More realistic is driver, or passenger accidentlly hitting the button while driving on the highway,

They may have been reaching for the heated seats, or maybe even getting change and then accidentlly opening it while driving at speed, or while there was low clearance above.

I agree it's a pain but I'm sure there's a z4 owner that is a flake n would cause some damage with out this feature.

The roof operation is deactivated beyond a certain speed, so that should be an issue.
