Say what you want to about winter tires and driving, but after passing three BMWs ( 2 three series coupes and a 5 series...all were RWD), that were all spinning their wheels in futiliity, on the long commute to work, I have NO intention of driving the Z4 during the Winter.
Granted not every week is going to be greeted by "Snowmageddon", but I will always prefer AWD to challenge the snow and ice.

With the low ground clearance and the BMW factory paint chipping easily (even with the clear bra, it doesn't cover everything), I would drive on a more reasonable road conditions when possible.

its funny how you change your thinking when you get older. You realize that time is going really fast, and to heck with it,, its only a car,, and its more fun to just enjoy it. I was out in it last night, with -23 degrees, very very pleasant, with the heated seats, heated wheel, and howard stern on sirius to laugh to...

Having lived in Western PA for my entire life, the last thing I want to create for myself is a problem. It took me over two hours to get to work and I have to think that the 3 cars I passed because they were stuck dead in their tracks contributed, in their own Butterfly Effect way, to the problem.
Morning rush hour is not the time to take my sports car (If I had it in my possession) out for a drive. My SUV has Sirius/XM and I can enjoy Howard too and not worry about my wheels spinning in futility. Even if I was older, I think my sense of community would keep me from potentially adding to the driving mess. Those 3 BMW drivers that were stuck, have only added to the "Ass Hole" BMW-driver persona. I am not trying to say that the Z4 is unusable for Winter Driving. I'm sure with the proper shoes on, it will get you through most days. I will be storing mine, and I STILL don't know which storage method is better for me!!!!

Currently there are just two cars and a truck, and a golf cart on steroids - an EZGo landscape vehicle with a dump bed. For those who may be interested, here's a write-up about the garage and the features it incorporates: http://edsandra.com/esgeneral/Garage1.htm
Best regards, Ed |

I came across this on my way home from work. I didn't know that the old Z4 came with this "Winter Wonderland" package.

I park the Z4 in the garage with a trickle charger on it, the 325Ci parks next to it, the Benz SUV stays outside from April to October and the 4x4 Pickup stays out all year.
I wish I had the room (and the money) for the garage setup shown above....fantastic but I'd need two lifts and a really high garage, damn !! NIce setup
