BMW UK ordering problems

Ok guys what's your view on this...... Sorry it's a long one

Went along to my BMW dealer a couple of weeks ago (who have been very good with me may I add) and ordered a Z4 35iS.

I sat with the sales guy and we specced the car up on his computer and took advantage of the "connectivity package" offer which along with bluetooth chucks in USB and a couple of other connections for the phone and ipod.

Ok great. So as you do I hit another dealer and spec the same car and between the two I haggle for a deal.

So I order the car and pay a deposit with the same dealer who supplied my Z4 23i.

However a couple of days later he phones me in a bit of a panic to say that the ordering system won't let them put the connectivity package on and is chasing it up with BMW. Few days later he says apparently you now need to order navigation (£2100) to get the money saving package and he is at a loss as to why this is currently.

I go straight to BMW car configurator online and spec the car up no problem???? Now i've been informed you can't get bluetooth without navigation AT ALL!. (my current 2009 Z has bluetooth and no nav).

So I call BMW. Unhelpful, blamed the dealer for everthing and that the terms and conditions of the web site is that they can change spec whenever. Basically tough.

Now I specced the car in two different dealers on a BMW system, made an order and paid a desposit and now i'm told to get bluetooth on my car I now have to order Nav at £2100 because BMW have changed the production and this is a couple of weeks after I placed my order.

BMW says it's the dealers fault and to take it up with them. To be fair the dealer has told me the system has now only just changed today not when I ordered the car.

I know my contract is with the dealer but I seriously think BMW have been unfair with their response here.

Not like it's a set of mudflaps but an integral part of the car that can't be retrofitted or make use of the steering wheels controls.

Suggestions welcome.

1. websites are not updated realtime
2. you're paying 50k pounds and can't decide over 2k???

I like the nav - best one I have ever seen in a factory fit.
I think it is worth it.
Over here - our contracts say that if anything changes in pricing from the supplier - then they have the right to change the price we pay...

It's a pi**er the way you been treated, but Memphis1 and Dr Stig 2 are right, bite the bullet and move on. Besides, the Nav is a nice addition and it won't hurt your resale.

Under £40 actually

I don't need Nav. I live in Ireland and half the roads are wrong on the nav systems anyway (I can't even get google maps to find my street). We don't even have Postcodes south of the border.

Plus it's not just the website but two different dealers and their BMW internal systems that spec the car.

I've blew the budget anyway. I don't have £2k to spend on the nav. So now i've a car coming with no USB, Aux in, power socket or bluetooth. All things I can and do actually use.

Sounds like you have a tight budget. Can't think of any way to force the dealer or BMW to do the right thing by you.

You can add a bluetooth after you receive the car. It's been a while since O looked at them, but I'm pretty sure that are some on the market.

I'll probably miss the USB more than the bluetooth. It's just great with the Droid for streaming music.

Dealer is going to call me later today. I'm going to try at least to get them to meet halfway. Wife is gonna kill me though

Wow, I'd be more worried about the combined depreciation on both cars, not the £2100! That will make £2100 look like a drop in the ocean! Each to their own though ...

You really are quite a Z4 addict, are you going to get a new one next year too??

Why don't you get a Used Approved car instead? I'm sure you can find a 35i with the features you want with some depreciation rubbed off? That would have helped with the tight budget you are on ...

On another point though, if you've signed documents and agreed the price, you probably have effectively made a contract with BMW and they need to supply the car as agreed at the price agreed. If they can't meet the terms of that contract they are effectively breaching contract, so you have the right to play hard ball here i suspect. I think they need to make you an attractive offer to get over this hurdle.

But good news. it has all been sorted. BMW's ordering system has been screwed up and the dealer has managed to get the spec sorted.

Somebody somewhere hasn't been reading the bulletins and BMW customer care have an attitude problem. Also they need to know the difference between phone connection bluetooth and streaming audio bluetooth.

Dealer has been actually been a star as I gave them a fair bit of grief

Good news about your order!

It's funny, but if BMW has an Achilles Heel, IMO it's in electronics. The irony is that electronics drives virtually every one of their critical systems, including those in cars and mainframe computers.
