Z4 wind deflector install?

Has anyone installed the BMW windscreen on their Z4? It requires installing a couple of plastic brackets on the inside of the rollbars and it isn't clear where to position the brackets - and they need to be drilled into the rollbars so you only get one chance to do this correctly

The windscreen p/n is 54-34-7-200-808 If anyone has access to BMW tech bulletins on how to install this accessory it would be much appreciated!!

Sorry can't help with that one, that's one of the reasons I went with another brand.

Curious about your sig. though..., 6MT? As in manual transmission?

You just need to drill the covers, not the roll bars, it is fairly easy (even I could do it), or you can buy replacement covers with the holes. There is a discussion about it on bimmerfest

Yes - the 650 and Z4 are both manual transmission, as God intended

No, no, no! Don't drill anything. You need to get new silver roll bar covers that have holes pre-drilled. Use a plastic pry bar to remove them without marring the black roll bar cover (which you will reuse). You then insert the new ones and pop on the windscreen - really easy.

Why not drill the silver roll covers ? (when they are off , of course). If it comes out bad, you just buy new covers. If it comes out well, like it did for me and others, you save the $50.00 or so for new covers.

i think when you buy the oem windscreen it comes with new pre-drilled roll bar covers?

All i did was pop the stock ones off and put the drilled ones on. Then screwed in the brackets.

I bought mine used, he gave me the pre-drilled silver covers with it so idk if it normally comes that way or not.

Mine came with new roll covers for the brackets. I still have the original ones. No drilling required.

You can buy it with or without the drilled covers, and save about $50.00 if you do it yourself.

I should have asked the forum about this before buying the kit... I would have got the covers, but I have the kit already and for what I paid ($320) I can't easily return it. I guess I'll take a shot a drilling the covers myself. Drilling the holes should be easy; but I'm concerned about getting the brackets in the correct location vertically.

How about a pic of the windscreen installed with a close-up of the windscreen/roll bar cover interface to help me gage where to drill the holes?

youre really just drilling holes to get to the screw holes in the roll bar.

If you pop the covers off you can see them. The screws dont actually screw into the silver cover they just go through it. So once you make holes and screw it into the intended screw holes you cant screw anything up.

So the holes in the snap-on covers are merely clearance holes to allow the brackets to screw into the metal roll bars? I guess I should quit asking dumb questions; just go take it apart, get it done and move onto Holiday Boozin'

Since you drive a new 650 vert, I'm sure the pre drilled roll covers are pocket change for you in case you mess up.

It's a really nice GT car, but there are some pretty spectacular year end deals on the new 6's - but not as good as the deal I got on the last of the 2011 6 cylinder base Z4s !!

Euro delivery on both cars can make a lot of difference on what one has to give for a nice ride

I don't know about the current Z4, but with the old ones the hoop covers had tabs with a very strong tendency to break during removal, which typically meant new covers were needed anyway.
