Been hanging around this and some of the other English and German forums, and most of the traffic is about the 35, tuning, parts and the "is", not too much traffic about the 30 or the 23, but having started this thread, and having gone through the cars listed for those who replied, it now seems like there are many more 30 and 23's out there than was visible from the majority of the posts. We do seem to have [where I work] an above average number of BMW's in the parking lot [go figure] and anyone who does not show up with some kind of 35 [135, 335, 335d, 535, 635, 735] is questioned, so some of the post was a bit of venting [for which I thank you for letting me vent].

Not sure I would have titled this post as I did given all the great comments about the non 35, but was starting to feel like almost everyone else got the 35, I am very happy to have been wrong [again], and rejoice with the rest of you that I am one of the proud and the few to own a "Z" and am bolstered by the fact that others will never know the joy.

Fuel pump failures on the 35 here in Europe is very rare. I've only heard of one incident.

Hmm gotta be the petrol/fuel in the US then. It is strange since it has made so much noise on this side of the pond.

My car went into safe mode the other day and the first thing I thought was "HPFP". BMW checked it out and nope, "one cylinder misfired, once" was the result of the computer probe. I asked specifically about the HPFP and the issues on the net and the service writer told me it was mostly in the 335, 535 and 135's (I know, same engine) and that they haven't had any issues yet, she thought the HPFP had been upgraded in the Z's . It does make some sense as the HPFP isn't in the engine so why should it be the same (it could be, I'm assuming it isn't) I wonder if US models (mine is a Canuck version) may have had the same HPFP in earlier ones, I'm sure that more US cars were mfg'd before the Canuck production run was made so we might just be lucky up here. Of course my HPFP could fail tomorrow ...

I think the reason there are more reviews of the 35i /is is because that is the car spec that BMW sends out to the press more often.

Why do they do that - simple, they make more money from the higher spec cars when they sell them. BMW try to set up the desire to have more. More engine power, more gadgets, more luxury... And the margins on the extras are far greater than the margins on the base model car.

Over here a 23i with no options is about $90K. A 35is with no options is $140K.
Is there really $50K worth of extras. Of course not. Its the same shell, same electrics. And a very profitable margin for BMW.

So the smarter buyer goes the way of the old real estate addage.

All good points except........I've never purchased an option for a car or even a car itself because the manufacturer create any kind of desire for me. I created my own desire for the DCT after test driving a Z4 with it. All BMW's marketing did was inform me they now made a Z4 with the DCT. IF I had NOT liked the DCT, then there is no amount of advertising and articles saying how great it was that would have made me purchase a Z4 with it.

Don't worry - I'm hoping they're finally getting it fixed.

Completely satisfied with my s30i and 6 speed manual. I came out of back to back E93 335i verts. Decided I never used the raw power of the TT engine and wanted to more balanced feel of the s30i.
