Sorry but I don't like the placement of the plate at all. It covers part of the kidney grill and it doesn't look that good to me, if possible I'd move it 2-3 inches lower even to show the whole kidney grill in all of it's kidney-ness.

I don't like the placement either, it's on the front, but it's Hawaii state law.

I just took delivery of my new Z4 on Saturday. I have not put a front plate on many of my cars even though Colorado has front plates. Trying to decide what to do this time around. Right now, I am leaning on installing it with the mount that came with the car. It will look like the one on xnav's car, I assume. I don't like a front plate, but don't really see anything wrong with the way his is installed. Better than that tow hook location install.

Eh, blocking an inch or so of the air cooler won't make much of a difference. I'll like use the tow hook alternative to avoid drilling a hole in my front bumper, not the best looking but better than actually mounting it on the bumper. I also like that I can get a color matching body paint plate frames.

I haven't used a front license plate here in NY and never got stopped. I don't think cops really care, unless you get pulled over for something else and then they'll nail you on the missing plate. For me it's worth it because it looks so much better.

Never let the dealer mount your frt plate bracket. I mounted mine myself so it does not cover the lower portion of the grills after I had the frt & rear painted to match. The black plastic is so tacky.

I'll likely opt out of putting mine on either plus the no from plates is a fix-it ticket here in CA and only cost $10 iirc. It's just the hassle of getting it signed off by a cop but it's not a big deal. I'll be buying the tow hook plate holder when that time comes and I need it checked off by a cop.

I refuse to mount the front plate and I've never had a problem on this car or my previous Mercedes. I think JP is right though, they'll tack it on if they get me for something else AND write me up for the deleted side reflectors as well. Having said that, It's been more than 20 years since I was last pulled over so it's a risk I'm more than willing to take.

"....the city of Los Angeles writes 164,000 front license plate tickets each year (often bagging people while they are parked in public places or at airports)."
http://blogs.edmunds.com/karl/2006/0...f-revenue.html

I've been ticketed there once in M3 and got a tongue lashing another time there from an officer for having tag on my dashboard. I since mounted it on lower splitter, but bent it into an L shape to mimize disturbance to airflow to radiator. The Z4 has it mounted but I'm about to cut off the lower part of tag with no information to get it out of the airstream of FMIC.

pss- Love the painted OE tag holder HerrK.
