So what's the price in China and HK before tax for a loaded 30i or 35i? Please list the options you get with the car.
I'm curious because based on my quick calc, it looks like with tax, etc., you're paying about $137K USD for the 35i in China. A fully loaded 35i in the US is about $75k +/- w/tax. That's roughly an increase of 1.82. My math could be a little off but even so that's a huge difference. Is there a large market for black market cars over there? |

I have pissed off by the car price in China for ten years. I have no idea how this can happen, since China is in WTO now. Your math is correct; in China, we are paying about 170%-180% of the car price in States. One of my friends told me the calculation is about the following formula compare to the state price. 100% US CAR PRICE * 1.25(25% WTO allowed Import TAX MAX)*1.17(PRC local call price increase tax, some kind of PST or GST thing.)*1.1(car usage tax)=PRC CAR price 1X1.25X1.17X1.1=1.60 Used to have a huge black market, but not for now! |

I heard stolen cars (luxury brands such as mercedes, bmw & audi) from canada and US were smuggled to China and sold to black market buyers.
FYI, China drive left-handed and Hong Kong right-handed, right handed cars cannot get registration in China. Last edited by Otago; 01-05-2010 at 07:27 AM.. |
