Inlets

It looks like several of you guys are running inlets on the E89. I've got some work planned for the Z4 and wondering if I should throw some inlets in the mix. I'm hoping you guys can help with a few questions:

1) How involved is the install and is it something that would make sense to do at the same time we install downpipes?

2) How do these look in the engine bay on the E89? Do they look ghetto like BMS DCIs or more refined?

3) How do they sound? Any different than an open filter setup like the DCIs?

4) Are these worthwhile for some running stock turbos? The Z4 is my DD and I don't have any plans to do turbos or an engine build (yet).

I have no idea about anything you asked, but would you mind saying me what makes the BMS DCI look like "ghetto" ?

1) Its best to have inlets and downpipes installed at same time to void paying double labor if you having someone else do it

2) Far better than the pancake inlets, yes it makes it look more refined but if you got a DCI setup well they are what they look like

3) Inlets dont sound anything, but yes it will make the BOV sound louder, and air intake sound shshshshshs sound loader

4) Absolutely, not just the gains in power, but your turbo will run more efficiently

Most important is a good tuner

it was 400$ in labor to get mine installed.
Got the VTT inlets, which look stock.
They sound awesome. you can hear the turbos much better.
i put down ~450whp with inlets on stock turbos. so i'd say yes.

Garage List
And the install shouldn't be nearly as bad as my car since there is supposedly more wiggle room in your engine bay.

Yup there is tones of room on the E89 compared to the 1 and 3 series N54 cars.

Thanks!
It was actually pretty simple...
2- universal cone filters with 2.5" inlets, $30 each eBay
2- 2"x2.5" 90 degree silicone elbows (longer style) $20 each eBay
2- ShopVac extension tubes (the smooth kind, cut to length) $8 each Menards
2- 2" & 4- 2.5" stainless t-bolt hose clamps, less then $25 on eBay
4' of 3/4" heater hose & clamps (relocate radiator reservoir) $10 Napa

So basically I only spent around $150

I removed the factory inlets and installed the new ones while I was doing my downpipes, intercooler, and charge pipe install, so that made it much easier. The only cutting I had to do, was to trim a "U" shaped notch in the heat shield for the rear inlet tube to pass through...
