Cool Z4 2010 Center Console Damper

The hinged console door on my Z4 2010 has lost its damping mechanism, so just slams shut, rather than allowing a partially open capability. Dealer says this is a common issue now so the replacement is on back order from Germany. They say the entire center console must be replaced. Seems extreme, but their call.

Anyone else with this issue?

Mine is working well on my 2011 35i. I know what you mean by the spring action the lid has. Seems strange they have to replace the entire console for that problem. Should not be a big issue replacing the console though.
Post us on the outcome.

The hinge in mine was clicking & interfering on opening from new, annoying more than anything. Being a new car, I wanted it fixed. You are correct in that the entire console needs replacing & ordering from Germany (more than likely, was the case with mine). Luckily they didn't damage anything during the replacement, it's a bit of a job.

So I got no notice over the last 3 months about the part, but when I brought my Z4 in for 30K mi service, I had them check. Turns out the part was delivered to the dealer, but since it was never used, they sent it back to some warehouse. They say they can get it re-delivered over the weekend, and since I have a free loaner, I told them to install it next week. Long process for a console lid damper. More to come...

Well my center console creaks when I lean on it. But that's the only problem I've had with it. But..you're saying it's supposed to be dampened too? I've never noticed mine to be that way, will need to go try it now!

My problem seems to be diffrent. Just got back from driving and opened up the arm rest lid and once I tried to close it, it wouldn't lock into place so it just keeps popping open. After a few tries, I manage to close it but I could feel it isn't secured and when I hit a little bump, the thing pops open again. I was checking it out to see if anything might have broken but I could find anything. Ugh, I guess I'm going to have to bring it to the dealership now.

BMW dealer replaced my center console in order to repair the damper on the Console Lid. Cost to me $0. Very pleased they got this fixed.
