My BMW remote app to the rescue
before it was just a nice option and an entertaining way to show off the tech to the family... when would I really ever use it...
Well the wife picked me up from Hertz so she had her key and I didn't... we went downtown to the local Strawberry festival and walked around... so we got a couple of kettle corn bags and headed back to the car... put them in the trunk... then the wife says.... wait lets open a bag of popcorn and enjoy it fresh on the way home... she tosses her purse in the trunk and grabs one of the bags... and so I just close the trunk... then... 'wait my keys are in there'.... too late... really why isn't there a sensor that detects a key fob locked in the trunk? My Miata would automatically reopen the trunk when it detected key in the trunk... same for our Infiniti... wth... so there we stood embarrassed as there were some people asking if we were leaving our primo spot in the garage... and thoughts of the location of MY key left at home and who we could get to go to our has to get it.... then the wife reminds me... 'you have that app on your iphone..' DUH!!! entered my PIN... swiped my finger to UNLOCK the car... 60secs later... BEEP she was unlocked... and we were back on the road...GENIUS!! |

Nice save. I keep forgetting my pw for that app. The comfort access keys have the feature you want though. Many times they have automatically reopened my trunk when I've tossed my bag in with the keys inside.

You can always call BMW assist to have them open you door by satellite.

that is odd..when i put my key in my bag and throw my bag in my trunk..my trunk won't lock. That is until I take my key out. I wonder why mine is different.

Thats interesting. I once threw my jacket in the boot (trunk) and with the key locked inside, couldn't unlock it.
Luckily was only 20 minutes from home, but it was a fun exercise - and no, I couldn't unlock the boot with the key inside....stayed locked...and obviously the doors wouldnt open either... What is this app you speak of? |

SgtGigglebox- Thanx for the info on the BMW Remote app.
I do not have an active BMW Assist account, however. Can used 2009 vehicle qualify for BMW Assist? Does anyone know the cost? Any other info would be great.

As far as I know, vehicles as far back as the mid 2000s could do it. From what ive read, you can set it all up simply by pressing the SOS button in the car. Someone on the other end can guide you through the process.
