Hold button to get the roof down?

Dear all,

A newbie here - we took delivery of our beloved Z4 about 6 weeks ago. It replaced an '05 Porsche Boxster. We love it. It looks smashing in silver with the tart's bedroom red leather interior.

I have two questions about the Z4 which I have Googled but for which I have not found answers.

1. Why do I have to hold the button down to get the roof open/closed? This seems really silly to me, and I feel like a dork holding the button to open or close the roof. The Boxster did not require this if the vehicle was moving - the roof would open/close automatically with one touch of the button. The Z4 seemingly needs to be completely stationary and requires one to hold the button. Why? Can this be changed?

2. We absolutely HATE the voice in the integrated BMW Satellite Navigation, particularly the way she pronounces 'NOW' (sort of, 'NARH') Is it possible to get another voice?

Thanks in advance for the answers and happy motoring!

cheers

Holding the button to open and close the top also in a stationary position is how BMW have done this car, apparently safety reasons.
Even though 2013 cars will be able to doing it moving upto 30kph. Do not know if you have to hold the button down??
You can buy aftermarket devices that allow you to open and close the roof and I think open close on the move??? There are some recent threads on this were the guys have bought the Smart top ???

As for the voice? again I do not think you can change it, personally I leave it off as it gets to repetitive when giving directions!!!!

It works that way because it works that way, ask the designer of the car why as we don't!

And no, you can't change the voice, learn to love it.

safety feature since there are no sensors to detect if someone sticks a hand somewhere they shouldn't, etc.

I could have been told this so I would but the car but my salesperson said the nav voice could be changed from male to female. It never bothered me enough to research this or actually change it.

You can change the top to one touch and top down through coding. As far as the voice goes I'm not sure.

I've been told that it still requires holding the button. The only change is that the gears or assembly has been reinforced to accommodate the air/drag when operating the roof in motion.
