Buy Back

Has anyone had experience with a buy back from BMW? I'm going to go that route (rather than Lemon Law it, at least for now) and want to know how things went for you.
Thanks

Yes.
2007 335i vert
Wrote several letters
BMWNA called and we worked a deal
Ordered a 2009 335i vert
Paid a small difference in MSRP
Picked up the car in about 8 weeks
Fair deal

OK, sounds like BMW is responsive to situations like this. I'll give them a call when I get my car back.
Since you probably are interested, here's what happened in the last 2 months:

chewed up both rear tires at 10000 miles due to faulty alignment right out of the factory
leaking fuel filter housing (OK, these are both relatively minor)
failure of turbo #2, which took 3 weeks to replace, and 3 days later...
failure of turbo #2, burned off engine oil, huge amounts of smoke, low oil pressure warning. This second repair is almost done.

Both times they said the turbo failed due to manufacturing defect. My faith in this car's reliability is nil. I'm afraid to drive it anywhere for fear of getting stranded. A consult with a local independent BMW shop and a search of the forums shows no other posts regarding turbo failures so I'm assuming I've got a bum car. So I'm looking for a buy back and replacement with an identical car.

You already know my story with my 2004 330ci. But that was back in 2004, I had to get an attorney to get BMW NA to agree to a "buy back" at a quicker pace. Nice to hear you still want another beautiful Z4.

I agree with Wraith ... you should have no problem getting an identical car. Looks like you may have a Friday car or one just finished in rush (pushed by top management - accountants now at the top as you may well know to get it into the month end etc).

Good luck with the replacement it is a wonderful car ... my former Z4 tires at the same milage were also history (inside wear etc). I also had other issues, I will no longer talk about it.

Cheers and good luck

Wow... that's amazing story.

I remember that our cars practically shared the boat ride over... and may have been on the production line at the same time.

Happily, I haven't had a single issue - knock on ash wood trim. I hope it all works out for you!

Yeah I remember too. The only good thing that may come out of this is getting to do the ED that I missed out on because of the volcano eruption.

2 HPFP failures in 1 month

Cats kept throwing o2 codes, took weeks for them to get a replacement cat to fix it

but the lemon was based purely on the 2 HPFP

in the 9 months or so I had the car, she was in service for over 30 days....

Now we have a new 11 z4...but funny thing is...it also threw a CEL last week X.x.......at 1100 miles......

So I got an unsolicited phone call today from BMW NA about my plans to ask for a buy back. Apparently they monitor this forum! Who knew?

I took it as a good sign that they're interested in my issue. The woman I spoke with couldn't have been nicer and she is following through with this process and will get back to me next week. I guess the buy back has to be approved, so that's what I'm waiting on now.

Easier process than I went through - they put me through the ringer but in the end they did what was right and made me whole. Plus, we went from a 2009 Z to a 2010 Z.

Awesome to hear that everything worked out in the end Vintage. I had wondered whatever happened with your case. Glad to hear it all worked out in the end and BMW did the right thing and made you whole.

Thanks marcw. It was tough and but once the word made it high enough in BMW NA I received a call from a kind woman with the power to make things right.

But how would they know it's "you" ?

My guess is that it wasn't too difficult to determine this based on "Service History" alone, especially since back to back turbo failures would be rare.

If, however, there was more than one occurrence of this in the US... they could always verify it with the build description and home city (listed in jparnes1 profile).

(and heck, I don't even watch CSI)

Oh... and the real question should be...

Why did they (BMW NA) reach jparnes1 after monitoring a forum... shouldn't they REALLY be monitoring unusual or prolonged Warrantee Service Issues?!?

a GOOD customer service department would set a "trigger mechanism" so that the customer would be contacted PRIOR to their car becoming a "buy-back" candidate... limiting the possibility of a potentially negative story reaching the forum.

Think of it this way...

Proactive contact =
Contact after the fact =
No contact =

(Just one for the suggestion box BMW NA)

Darbs, I hear what you're saying, but I was happy to get the call. It shows a level of concern on their part.

I would HATE to get a call. I don't want them knowing it's 'me' posting on here

Good thing my info is different enough from what my BMW info says...
