How many prbs have you encountered thus far?
Just curious how many prbs each of us had. Would be useful to state your length of ownership also. If 'other', please state what was the prb.
Mine are listed above. Luckily, most are in the 'annoying' category, save for the faulty airbag sensor. Owner for 22 months thus far. Last edited by tranquility; 05-12-2012 at 02:02 AM.. |

Where's the "None" option?
Or the "Whatever problems I may have encountered are easily outweighed by all the great moments I've had with my car, so I prefer to focus on them rather than dwell on the problems and give a casual reader the impression that the E89 is suffering from more issues than the average car in the same price range"? |

Hopefully the more astute readers will not be skewed into thinking that this car has more prbs than the next; but on the other hand, it could be taken at face value and, if anything, gives BMW the incentive to prevent future recurrence. So far, there have been some annoying prbs but nothing major for me and the prbs have been few and far between. Still, it is time consuming to have to pop into the dealer every now and time to address this little niggles. |

I have an abundance of rattles, my window dances, and my side mirrors make large amounts of noise (left side only) when opening/closing. My center console now slams shut, sometimes my car will abruptly turn off if its hot out and I'm in sport mode, and the fan makes a TON of noise (dealer blames it on the condenser or something). I still love the car though

Well I plan on bringing the car in soon. The fan they claim is 'normal' but I didnt have this problem when I first bought the car. I have around 37k miles now; hoping more problems dont keep popping up.
I will inform you of any dealer made decisions when I bring her in. I will prolly do that this week simply so I can enjoy her during the nice weather. I hate those 328 loaners >_<! |

I've had two software problems and neither of them were actual problems.
They ran test plans on my car and there wasn't anything actually wrong. |

I have the same whirling sound except mine constantly is whirling. If my ac is or heat is on, it will whirl until I turn it off. It has come to the point, where I dont use it anymore since its so bothersome. They say its normal. They also claim that they cannot replicate my rattles (even when i brought a video once). I cant wait to hear the excuse for the center console or side mirrors

I had a few problems in 3 years. Most weren't listed, only 1 was serious.
Water in a tail light, a broke trunk partition, a brake booster failure (flat bedded to the shop for that), misc top rattles and a dash rattle, and the HPFP recall.

Rattle should be an option. I would choose it every time.

All my problems were addressed
I will post up the details on what was done to correct each and every problem! I dropped it off early Friday, and got it back Monday around 5:30 pm. They provided me with a 2013 X3 with 3 miles. So i was somewhat satisfied, i suppose |

2 years next Friday.
29,000km travelled, mostly commuting in the country with about 10km per day in the city. Love the car - closest thing to perfect all rounder that I can imagine. Luxury, performance, handling, convertible, attractive... and the car is pretty good as well. Problems: * Noisy steering rack - replaced * Dancing windows - fixed with software upgrade * roof mechanism rattles - tighteded and lubed whenever I ask them to, but they keep coming back * cabin rattles - keep coming back * centre speaker rattle / hum - fixedd a few times, and I haven't noticed it lately - fingers crossed * 3 of 4 Centre hub caps exploded off the car during a driver training day (not replaced under warranty - annoying - BMW response was that it can't happen - but it did... Do they think I lied?) * Scratched leather seat by dealer - replaced no worries * Faulty roof sensors - replaced (I didn't even know they were faulty) * Bent rim (pot hole) fixed under wheel insurance * gouged rim (kerb) fixed under wheel insurance * trim piece behind seat exploded and sent fragment the size of a plum into cabin (replaced no worries, but no explanation found) * only three women have ever come up to admire the car while I have been in it. (I must be really ugly).
