Why ESS over Dinan?

I notice a lot of people here go for ESS and not Dinan. Any particular reason?

I was thinking of doing a stage 1 from Dinan when my warranty expires.

Isn't Dinan quite a bit more money and not programmable by a hand held like ESS?

A LOT more money.. Dinan also provide a warranty.

ESS works, is cheapest but no warranty..

It's $1400 for dinan, how much is it for the other one?

And with the other one, can you revert to stock back and forth since it seems they provide you with a device?

What about the cobb Tune?.

Sorry if these questions have been asked before, i did my best trying to search.

I was going to wait until my warranty runs out before reflashing it but IF with the Cobb tune or ESS i'm able to revert everything back to stock and leave no traces of the flash perhaps i could do it now

EDIT: it seems the cobb tune doesn't work for 2009 models?. why is this?

I just spoke with some dude at the cobb website, this is the transcript:

avier
Why doesn't the accessPort work with Z4 2009?
javier
hello?
Tim
The 2009 Z4 does not have the twin turbo engine in it is the reason the AccessPORT will not work.
javier
Of course it does. I have an Sdrive35i
Tim
You are correct, the AccessPORT will work on any Z4 with the N54 twin turbo engine
javier
would you mind letting people know so they can correct it in the website?. i don't feel confortable purchasing it when it says to check compatible models and mine isn't liste
Tim
I will pass this along.

The Cobb works perfectly fine, I'm running Stage 2+ on my 2009 35i. Should work with all latest ROMS as well!

No I don't think so. I brought my car in with JB4 installed, but set to "off"

Javier,

Yes, even if you wipe the tune off before taking to the dealer (e.g. ESS), BMW now monitors turbo rpm/functions/data to determine if you are making them work harder than factory settings.

Usually they won't go that far, but if you give them a reason to they can definitely find out. Generally as long as you are polite to your SA and aren't giving them a reason to check you'll be fine.
