If you're going to buy pre-2013, you need to be aware of the fuel pump (and injector?) issues that were resolved towards the end of 2012. Many of these parts have been replaced on early cars and there is an extended warranty on the pump, but you need to come up to speed on that issue. Hopefully, someone will come along who is more knowledgeable about all that than I am.

My car had the fuel pump replaced at 30k miles.
The records show nothing more than maintenance and spark plugs over the years.

I just did a complete about face.

I just agreed to purchase the MT car.

I think that I have read every review on the E89, right from the first '09's to the most current. What I found was that I was more in agreement with the 6spd lovers than with the DCT owners. Not that I could find a bad word on the DCT, but simply that the sense of involvement that one gets from a manual just seems more appropriate from me.

I am so glad to have found so much forum content to go through. My thanks to all who chimed in on this forum

Now, if only I can find someone local to swap their 18" wheels and tires for my 19" ones :-)

Good choice. another plus...if and when you sell the car, you'll have a rare 6MT which should make the car very desirable by the right buyer.

The searching and finding and evaluation and final decision was an intense and enjoyable experience for many of us. Hope you follow through and keep us apprised of your experiences now. Wish you well.

I picked up the car yesterday, and I could not be happier. Although I purchased it directly from a private individual, ,my BMW dealer accommodated the sale for me at no charge! (seller will likely get his new BMW from them as his tax credits are on file there now). The car still has about 4 months left on the new car warranty, and buying through the dealer allowed me to purchase it as CPO. Then I discovered that there is a 3 year year CPO option and I grabbed it!

I already feel completely at home in the car. The only thing I find weird is not having the idrive and features that I am used to on my '13 535. But, for me its intended use is solely as a fair weather sports car, and its still light years more modern than my '93 Porsche 968 Cab was.

Lucky for us we are having some unexpected November "summer" here in Montreal, so I am getting a chance to enjoy it a bit before reality sets back in.

Will take and post photos very soon.

Cheers.

New car warranty

Just before the new car warranty runs out, have the dealer do a "long trip" inspection, so if they find anything it can still be done under warranty. (I saved a couple of thousand dollars this way - didn't think of it myself, but the service advisor suggested the inspection.).

Sadly, the car will still be fast asleep when the original warranty expires. The shop foreman took it out on the road with me and he supervised the certified inspection, and all they could find was a "slightly" worn windshield wiper. I will only be on the road with it for another week or 2 if I am lucky, as weather can get ugly around here real quick this time of year.

Even this cloud has a small silver lining. My `12 has the iDrive and, after about the first driving season (woefully short in Calgary), the motorized screen now buzzes like a cheap add-on. During longer trips, we shove wadded-up pieces of napkin between it and the dash to dampen the sound. I'll add that there are only about 16,000 km on the clock after three driving seasons (we bought new in 2013).

Enjoy the 6MT! I do miss that from my `08 335i.

More than 2 weeks in now, and the weather here is still holding out. Not exactly top down, but great for a sport coupe.

Having a ball with it, I must say. What astonishes me most of all is that there is zero cowl shake, and that the ride is civil on the 19" wheels.

I thought I would hate the 19 inchers (not the look, but the ride). Instead I am quite pleased.

I love the way you can pin your passenger to their seat back from 1500 rpm in second gear!

So you know about 296 rims, right? And, having just switched over from RFTs to non-RFTs on 18" rims, I'm here to join the chorus singing the praises of non run-flat ride quality. The difference is phenominal!

Yes. Previous owner had the rim warranty. They are currently perfect. Rear tires are brand spanking new. I will go non rft when the time to change presents itself.

Curious if the wheels are less susceptible to cracking with more pliable non rft's.

I understand that the replacement #296 are now made stronger with a thicker cross section. Surprised that the 19" Rfs ride is acceptable now but I am glad to hear it. What is the make and model of the tire?

congrats, I loved the storage bin in my non navigation car.

Great choice on the 6MT. I am a DCT convert but can appreciate the nostalgia/involvement of the 3 pedals

Perfect place to hid one of those toll transponders; it transmits right through the plastic cover!

I actually just fixed that aggravating buzz on mine. I've been thinking about doing a full DIY on it, but the short version is you pull the display out and slide adhesive felt between the screen and it's pivot point on one side to apply mild pressure on it. It's completely silent now no matter how rough the road, when before it would rattle and buzz at the slightest provocation.

I would be VERY interested in a DIY regarding your fix to this. Sounds like it could be just the thing for me. Thanks for chiming in.
