I have the CTMfree (Cabrio Top Module modifier) now and it works perfectly .

Now i can open/close the top up to 40 Km/h (25 mph, yes, it works on US models).

No more "honks" and "beeps" from other cars when you decide to open the top at the redlights! just drive away and gracefully open the top....... it!

And the best of all is that i didn't have to mess with pulling cables and hiding stuff. Just as easy as with the TVfree and TVactive from Prochip.

If there is an interest for a group-buy let me know and i will try to set up a good deal.

To clarify: This is an "plug-activate-unplug" device. You will not have any kind of "module" left in the car after you used it! You reprogram via the OBD2 connection in your car.

Shadow4
I have it on my car and used it so many times during the last 3 weeks on my cross country US road trip. People always point and stair. Only one time did I have to do it when it started to rain. All the other times I just did it to cool off a bit as I looked for a Starbucks Cafe it is a cool feature for sure.

I highly recommend it, you all should get it it is worth the money for sure.

Cheers,

Rolf-Dieter

Just tried to install mine. Got confused with the instructions. I ended up going to the German website to understand that the LEDs blinking means that the program is done. Oddly it seems that the mirror fold does not work. I have not yet tested the top at less than 60kph. I am not sure the programing was successful. What button on the key do I need to push to activate the mirrors?

OMG- keep it under 40kph, NOT 60kph!

The resistive force of the wind goes up as a square of the velocity...

that extra 50% speed will add 125% to the drag forces on the top!

Dont do it man!
The tool lets you open/close the roof while moving, but it doesn't make the roof mechanism indestructible!

Oh, and it is a press and hold on the Roundel button to close the mirrors...

Yes Rafale, Listen to the Doc!

I think the tool works perfectly as it didn't open and destroy your roof at 60Km/h. I suggest that you start with the Top DOWN and close then open at 20 km/h and then you can increase in increments of 10 km/h until you find a speed that you feel good with. Remember to count with head or tailwind!

I have done it at 40km/h and it works but usually i never go faster than 30-35km/h when operating the top.

^ Yes, I would imagine one would do it going just fast enough to keep people behind you from getting impatient, but no more.

Mine's on order!

I had no intention of doing it at 60kph no worries guys. I am just not sure the flash was successful because the folding mirrors do not seem to work.

Now there is 2 more days, then i order from Prochip.

So if you want to join this group-buy you better hurry up!

Here is a link to show how fast the tools do the programming. When the red and green lights are alternating everything is finished. Time it if you like!

Hi there. Expecting my new 2011 Z4 in two weeks. Drove it during the European Delivery and I wish I could have moved the top while moving a few times.
Anyways, one dumb question and one real:
Dumb:? Does this affect the warranty in any way? Has anyone take the car to BMW service with this mod? Any issues with BMW finding out?
Real ?: When will the next group buy be?

Hi RM-Z4,

About the BMW warranty my understanding is that it varies much between different countries and in some countrys consumers are always protected even after very big modifications, for example exhausts, air intakes (complicated on a twin-turbo performance engine).

The nice thing about CTMfree is that you can deactivate as easy as you activate the top operation in less than 30 seconds. So if you want to feel secure you just deactivate before going to service.

Myself I have had my car in for fixes (windows and engine) 2 times already and BMW have run their diagnostics on my car both with CTMfree and TVfree activated and deactivated and they haven't commented anytime.

And as there are no hardware installed in the car i would say it is undetectable.

As for the group-buy i will send 10 tools today to thoose who have ordered. PM me and i will send 11 .

As my secretary Dr Stig 2 said i have 1 CTM and 1TVfree extra cause i learned from the last group-buy there will always be some new E89-owners asking for the tools.

BR Shadow4

Have you been thinking more about making "sportmode" permanent?

I can ask Prochip to see what is possible. How would you like to have it set up?

Washing up after someone and we are out of filters!

There are a number of things I would like the car to remember -

Random for music playback
The DDC setting I last used
And of course, for the car to automatically switch between day and night mode ont he iDrive nav screen...
