Thanks Guys,
The Q5 is just a bit too small in comparison (we hedged on the X5 but it was just too big) so we went all Goldilocks and settled on the X3. In doing so we get more power, more torque, faster ccel, better handling, but slightly less luxurious interior fittings. (eg the iDrive nob in the X3 feels cheap compared to the solid one in the Z4) The driveway finish is "Seeded pebble" with Nambucca Heads river pebbles (high silicon and iron oxide trace to make them red, and hard wearing) 8 years on and it still looks like new. Just need to sell the old Toyota Kluger / Highlander on the front lawn now. (I should have built a 3.5 car garage instead of a 2.5, then I could buy a bike as well)

X1 - Too small for us. MB ML350 - ok - handles poorly but cheap to buy in run out mode at the moment. Nothing I hear about the new one made me want to wait. BMW X5 - ok in 40d M SPort spec, but hard ride and $40K more expensive here than the equivalent X3 (and the X3 is a tad faster, easier to park and chews less juice) Porsche Cayanne diesel. Great car, excellent interior finishes, ut again $40K more than X3 for the same specifications / options Range Rover Sport - OK car, nice interior, poor sat nav and a bit rolly poley in its handling unless you option the adaptive suspension, then it is >$25K more than the X3. Nothing Japanese was considered. We get no comparable Japanese luxury cars here except the Rx400H, and it is similarly priced to the X3, but in no way a better car than the old Toyota Kluger (Highlander) Grande that we are replacing (and which costs $30K less). In the end it was an easy choice. The X3 was a great price (in comparison), it out handled and out performed every thing else I considered (in 30D M Sport spec) and I could option in everything I wanted for under $100K. Having two cars with similar controls and iDrive systems also helps - as the wife was getting confused when she swapped cars. This was just a bonus though, not a reason to buy.

I know what you mean, i was too but went for the Q5 in the end!! I do love the X3 though but a 12 month old Q came up with everything on it at the right price. Lovin' it, no regrets Z4/Q5 sorted whatever the weather |
