How to retrofit FL indicator on pre FL

Then I have retrofitted the FL indicator side marker on my 2009 Z4 35i

This is the part numbers right and left:
63137303243
63137303244

This is how it looks like from BMW:

Then I separated the indicator in two pieces and sent it for the paint shop. It got back in a Maserati colour called "Grigio Mercury".

Then I mounted them together:

This tap is the only thing you have to do a modification on:

You can brake this tap off with just your fingers, the double sided tape from BMW is enough to get a really good stick to the fender:

Take the old indicator off, this was a little hard:

The connector is the same:

Then it is connected, then you just take off the security tape and pop it in to place:

Result:

The indicator work fine and there is no warnings on the instrument cluster

Good luck

Looks good, what was hard about taking off the original indicator?

Looks nice. I like the more subdued color on it. Is that a 348 or a testarossa reflecting in your paint?

good stuff, i prefer the pre-facelift ones. You really got to get rid of that m-badge.

Nice Job. This is top on my list to do. The painted version looks great. I hate the current white blobs in the middle of my red fenders. The parts aren't showing on US parts yet - but I will probably be one of the first to order. I may go for color match or TBD alternative. Thanks for the pics & writeup.

What about the factory-applied ones on the steering wheel and the door sills? Cover them up with duct tape or pry them off?

Thanks, I used a plastic wedge and twisted it out, no damages to the paint occurred

Thanks, I will consider it, but it is just because it is happening a little to much on that spot of the fender.

So, the old one is just held on with an adhesive strip? This looks really good.

Did you consider using fishing line? That's what I usually use to remove 3M doublestick tape.

It appears to be held in by clips not adhesive..

+1 on prying off or duct taping the factory m badges. Keep it sleeper!

And in some ways... Keep it honest....

The old ones are held in by a plastic stepped clip. You can access it with a long skinney straight blade screw driver, under the hood, above and in front of the side marker.

Right fender well shown

Push gently on the tan colored tap in the center of the photo and the side marker pops out.

Sleeper? Well, let's just hope it wakes up when the time comes...

On honesty, BMW is setting a bad example here already. Kinda "do as I say, not as I do," you know? Tiny little "M" badges are already on the wheels, so the whole interior/exterior boundary thing has already been violated. Surely, a tastefully unobtrusive "M" will find its way to keep the lonely "Z4" company aft sooner rather than later. At least the OP is still only futzing with the side insignia.

Excellent job. Thanx for the write up and sharing. I just may consider this mod. I already removed my side markers and blacked them out with smoked film.

wish it didn't come with those as well, but that's just me. an M badge once upon a time when M meant motorsport not Marketing., was only ever seen on an Mcar. Also there is a big difference between an m badge on wheels door sils etc and the one next to the model number. All anyone gets is ridicule when an M badge is next to the model number.

I tried my STBMW but they said those parts are special orders and BMW distributer doesn't have them in stock. They also don't know when they will be in stock. Was it hard for you to get these? Where did you get these? Maybe they have another set in stock. =)

Parts are already available for the 2014s? Where did you purchase them from? Might take the leap into trying to retrofit the LED AEs....

Edit: Ah, MPBruin beat me to the question.
