Smell of burning
Hi all,
this post could seem strange... Did anyone note smell of burning when accelerate to kickdown? When I start (and enjoy to shift to 6000 rpm), in a few seconds I note that. Any ideas? |

Have you noticed the smell gradually increasing in strength over the last few months or was it an abrupt "wow somethings burning"?
How many miles on the car before you noticed anything? |

My Z4 comes out BMW in 2009, and I'm driving for 24k miles. The problem isn't gradually... I always noticed it. The strange things is that I don't feel the smeel when I'm starting... I feel it when I decide to improve my velocity... As I already said, the exact condition appares when I improve the velocity from 40 mph to 150 mph in "full-throttle mode". After a few seconds everything vanishes. Could it be a temporary over-temperature in cat? BMW shop (as usual in Italy) said that everything's OK... |

It doesn't seems to be sweet... It seems to be like a blown out match.
Do you know a smell like an over-hot exaust??? By the way, I'm quite mellow... I suppose that many electronic systems in Z4 would detect an evemntually mistake... Do you agree with me? Cheers. |

I would think so. If you can reproduce it then i suggest it is time for BMW techinicians to take a looksey. it is likley something weird like a heat shield touching the exhaust manifold or somethng under load. Or maybe a wire casing or wire loom touchng the exhaust. That is likely the only thing that will heat up that quickly to smell if it gets that hot.
