Hi all,
Just wanted to see if this was normal or not. Noticed it the other day, still getting used to the N55 (had an N54 previously). Car had rod bearings (OE) done 8K miles ago. This noise is only noticeable at around 1-1.2K RPM. Previous owner did use a URO parts valve cover on it - not sure if what I’m hearing is related to a small vacuum leak of some kind perhaps? Currently have 80K miles. Car drives totally fine, plenty of power, good mileage. No stored codes. Video here - thanks! |

Good job recording the noise. Shouldn't be hearing a "whine noise". Noticed it follows your shifts. Does it whine just throttling up in park or neutral or only in gear under load?

Seems to be coming more from the passenger side, even with the A/C off. |

I’ll try that! Should also point out that I really only hear it once the engine has warmed up - oil temp at around 230-240. Before then I don’t hear it. I am due for an oil change (~7000 miles since my last one).

Tried with a friend - couldn’t hear it in the engine bay itself - which is odd. I do feel a bit of vibration in the passenger footwell at that engine speed. But nothing severe. More like a harmonic if anything.

Took it to an Indy, their conclusion is the passenger side motor mount is starting to go bad. But only just, and as it’s only at that harmonic, their advice is to wait as it’s not a major issue (or really a big concern at all).
