Check out this thread. I don't like them at all, and they might not be as visible on a dark car, but I like stone chip a lot less.

Just a note: that's my car in the pics and I have one stone chip on it with 26000kms on the clock, and it was on there before I got the flaps.
It also does help a lot with keeping it clean(er). I drive in Canada and our roads are sh*t compared to the UK....Also they are almost unnoticeable on a dark blue or black car...

I have the 3M protective coating but not on the rocker panels and that's where the only stone chip is, bastard thing. The flaps help a lot with mud and water spray as well.
I had to get the 3M replaced last fall because it was staining yellow where certain insects committed suicide. Leave them on for more than a day and the acids in them start to stain the plastic....warranty work. Ciao, Mike

I have them on my car. No they don't look as good as not having them, but they don't look too bad on a black car. I'll see if I can go get some pic's of them. They do help, but when a rock wants to bite the car, it's not going to care what you got to protect it.

I put them on our car for the same reason. The look like hell but work very well. I will remove them in the spring when the weather improves.

Take a good look at the Clear Bra. Besides the nose I had it applied to the rockers, aft edge of the doors, front side of the mirrors, and rear bumper aft of the wheel wells. Also had a product called Diamon-Fusion applied to the windshield to protect against rocks. The stuff is pretty good, rather like RainX in the rain. At speed I don't have to turn on the wipers, the water beads up and rolls away.

If I were to go this route, and it has been on my mind, I'd consider 1) only installing them on the front, and 2) having them painted body color. I never considered having flexible parts painted until I saw someone else do it on flaps, and the results were good. They masked them so that only the outside was painted (leaving the side facing the wheel well black). With the proper flex additive in the paint, there should be no issues for typical use. The trick is finding a shop that can do a good job for reasonable cost.

BTW, another option I used on one of my S2Ks was to install flat truck style flaps to the inside rear of the wheel well. They are almost unnoticeable from most angles. Done right, they can be rigged for temporary on/off. A side benefit is that no part of the flap rubs the paint. You can get a large flap and then cut and drill for a custom fit with as much or as little protection as you want.
