Ticking Noise When Going Round Corner
Hey guys,
I drive a 35i and I enjoy driving fast on twisty mountain roads. Since about a month I have been noticing a strange clicking/ticking noise coming from the front left wheel when I turn-in hard into corners going to the right. When I turn right, the left wheel gets all the pressure on it. I had a friend look at the wheel in one of those tight corners when the sound would appear, and the rim is not touching the road. What could this noise be? Its kinda like the noise you get when you have a stone in between your tires, but this only happens when turning right (noise front left front wheel). Do you guys have any idea what this might be? |

Check you tire carefully to see if you picked up a nail/screw.

Yes, i even changed my 19" custom rims to the standard BMW 17" rims.
The first day driving fast around tight corners i didnt hear anything on the new 17" rims. The 2nd day running on the 17" rims i went for a hardcore mountain drive again, first 30 minutes, no sound at all. At the top of the mountain i stopped for 3 minutes to continue driving fast after. Ever since then I have the ticking sound again while cornering fast (in corners to the right). Its worse when going down hill, as there is more pressure on the front left side of the car (where the ticking sound comes from). It really sounds exactly like there is a stone in my tire (just a little bit louder though). But of course it is not stone but something else. The car handles fine, but I find it very strange that this sound is back. Do you guys have any idea what it might be? |

Well I if it isnt a stone/nail etc then it could be anything to do with the suspension components in around that tire. Perhaps it is a loose sensor (I had that on a MX5 once after upgrading my rotors). A caliper issue? Is it a rhythmic ticking that increases with speed etc? Could it be a bearing?
I would take your service advisor for a spin in the passenger seat so he can listen to it then diagnose it. |

brought my car to the dealer for an early first service 18k instead of 30k... and told them to look at the problem, they said they knew straight away. The alignment of the wheels was off, and they had to re-align it. Of course the machine to do so was broken, but hopefully today i get it back. Really hope its solved.

Godius, maybe loose tie end rod or premature leak and wear on cv joint
Alext, the car tells you when to take it to service not the dealer... My first service is next week at about 14k
