Alarm problem
Has anyone had any problems with the alarm?
Mine has gone off several times when it's been raining. I know I will have to take it in but just wondered if anyone has had the same and what the dealer did to sort it. Cheers |

Hi Bram, live just down the road from you, some rain last night!
And no problems with the alarm, never realised I had one until I locked the car with my daughter still inside! |

Alarm goes off several times - rainy day
Hi there,
Same problem here: my alarm went off for several times today (at least 5 or 6 times). The car is just standing on the street, where it always is. It was a (very) rainy day here in the Netherlands. Called the dealer, off course they want to take a look at it. I will drive by next week.

Alarm Problems
Mine goes off in the rain too. Taking the car in to local BMW dealer tomorrow (for the second time) to get it sorted (hopefully) - I will post the outcome.
Notes on first visit to fix alarm below. Other problems: Voice system - it's utter rubbish and doesn't recognise anything I say! Navigation system – it does not display any POIs although the option to do so has been ticked. Perhaps I need some training? Heating system - the recent cold weather seems to have highlighted a problem with the car’s heating – notably my feet get very cold when the system is in Auto. The only way I can get warmth in the foot-well is by manually selecting the zone and cranking up the temperature. Again, perhaps I’m doing something wrong. Car alarm - the reason why it had activated 10 times (always in rain) was not determined apart from a “theory” to do with “metallic” objects inside the car setting the sensors off. I am not satisfied with this explanation and the advice, to remove all metallic objects (money, keys, pens etc.) from the glove box, ashtray and storage compartments in order to prevent this happening, is unacceptable. The dealer has been very good so far, hence it is going back in again for a more detailed look, including hosing the car down to simulate rain! Tales of similar problems and their correction would be most welcome. 2010 Z4 sDrive 3.0 Last edited by evoke69; 12-28-2010 at 06:16 AM.. Reason: Additon |

* Must be your British accent, mate. Not kidding, it happened to a British-born friend of mine - and he drives a Jag! Navigation system – it does not display any POIs although the option to do so has been ticked. Perhaps I need some training? * You not only have to select POIs, but may have to tell it which one(s) to display. * Try playing with the knob on the upper dash that changes the temperature balance between lower and upper vents.

the vertical knob opening or closing, the horizontal knob is for cool or warm air, you probably mean the little button with the shape of a little guy sitting down

I seen that one before - then I remember to close the vanity mirror or put the sun visor up.

Re:
I've already had my alarm fixed.
There is a Puma for the problem. Sensor in the door that "hears" the rain hitting the car. Apparently they put some insulation between the sensor and the door. If you double arm the alarm (two presses of the key fob) it switches this sensor off. |

That's an interesting discovery on the double arm.

Re:
It's in the manual.
Double press lock and the LED on rear view mirror gives long flash to let you know (Eg: For leaving pets in car) sensors disabled. Then reverts back to normal flash. This is for UK use but should be similar. There is also a greeting flash on the rear view mirror to let you know the alarm has been activated whilst you have been away from the vehicle. |

Yeah. Now that I reread it. I often wondered why the interior sensors didn't seem active - as I sometimes push the FOB button more than once. So lately I trying to retrain myself to lock it via the CA door handle sensor before walking away.
Old habits become vices.

I often press to lock twice as lots of other cars I've had this dead locks the doors
Not the case in the z4? Really must try reading the manual!
