Tyre pressure monitor
Hi All,
Latest question, yes searched the forums. Does the E89 (mine is a 23i 2009 UK model) have the TPMS system that uses the sensors fitted inside the tyre or does it use the ABS based system? If it uses the sensors in the tyre could you use tyre inflation foam in the event of a flat tyre without destroying the sensor??? I don't use run-flats, ride is too harsh. Reinforced Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is lovely and sticky... Thanks guys n gals.... |

Most likely it does not have true TMPS sensors.
What colour are your tyre stems? If they are black you don't have true TMPS sensors, if they are grey, you have TPMS. (Edit: you can now find in the market TMPS with black stems, but quite rare) As for using tyre foam repair systems, there are appropriate ones which are TPMS friendly, such as this one. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Slime-Emerg...rds=slime+tpms |

The one using the ABS sensors is not a TPMS, it uses the ABS sensor to detect a difference in rotational speed between left and right tyres and trigger a warning if the difference is higher than a predetermined value. |

Thanks for the info, I was aware of the two systems but unaware that one may be better than the other.
I would think sensors in the wheels would be a nightmare when it came to changing tyres. I will have a look tomorrow. Regards Mark |
