Anyone know how to replace the shifter knob?

I Googled shifter knob replacement for a 6-speed manual transmission BMW and I found some E46 and E90 post instructing to just pull to remove the knob. I pulled and pulled unsuccessfully. Either it doesn't apply to E89 or I'm not pulling it hard enough due to possibly breaking something.....

I want to replace it with a ZHP weighted knob. If anyone else had this experience with a manual shifter E89 please share. Thanks!

that was 12 years ago!!
To remove the manual knob you simply pull upwards sharply, having unclipped and raised the leather surround first.
To remove the 8 speed auto, you unclip and raise the leather surround then disconnect the plug coupler on the right side then pull upwards sharply.

Place shifter in 2nd gear. Rapidly push down on the knob then sharply pull straight up.
